"It's good to want things."
Personal statement:

I am a film degree carrying movie lover who enjoys watching quirky romantic comedies and twisty psychological dramas, film-stalking Winona Ryder and Mary Stuart Masterson, collecting movie marketing paraphernelia (posters, press kits, etc.) and offering "unwanted but educated film student" opinions on the validity of certain flicks. I've worked in Sound Design, film insurance, development and film promotion... which doesn't mean I know anything. You should never trust anyone else's opinions on movies! To each their own.

Unusable Search
By Ravie13 in Spout Feedback
"I can't tell you how many times I've left Spout frustrated because the Search function just does not work. Searching for movie titles almost never works for me. And even when the Search box auto fills in a result for me (suggesting that the movie IS in the spout database, right?) it will pull up no results. Often I have to find the movie by searching through latest releases (which only works if the movie is a new release). " [More]

Re:Spout Speed
By Ravie13 in Spout Feedback
"Any new news? I've essentially given up on Spout because of the lag loading time and the unusable search functions. [quote user="tarky"] [quote user="seely"] [quote user="tarky"] i just joined and i'm finding it frustratingly slow....if i search for a movie it takes anything between 20 and 30 seconds to load...it's driving me nuts. is anything being done about this issue? thanks! [/quote] Actually, something is being done! You should hopefully notice some improvements very shortly. Search will be more optimized to give more relevant search results first, with faster search results. I apologize for the current performance, but from what I've seen its going to vastly improve very shortly :-} Thanks for your patience! -Jonathan Spout Customer Carebear [/quote] awesome...thanks [/quote] " [More]

"Use of real wolves = good. Adaptation from book to movie = TERRIBLE. Setting of movie = kinda cool. As a movie it was... eh. The book deserves a REAL adaptation though. The movie destroyed everything that was good about the book (teen sexuality and heartbreak)... probably because an accurate portrayal of teen sexuality (as in the book) would be too taboo for a movie. "PARK was an unexpected little thing that I just rented because Melanie Lynskey was in it. I wasn't expecting much but ended up with a big smile on my face. It was a really cute feel good movie that manages to make several characters worth watching. " [More]

"Also Disney's Treasure Planet. Maybe also Atlantis. Oddly enough Kathy Ireland's Alien From L.A. might also count. And people! Don't judge! League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is one of the smartest movies I've ever seen! I love that flick! " [More]

"Bishop is, of course, a classic. But my vote is for Winona Ryder as Call in Alien Resurrection. Also a shocker when she turns out to be an android since she's the only sympathetic character in her crew of vagabonds and pirates... then Ripley joins them but then she's a hybrid-alien herself... so there aren't any REAL females. Plus they made her into an action figure! " [More]

"The Craft and Practical Magic (irresponsible teen witches versus irresponsible adult witches) (triple feature with The Witches of Eastwick) or The Craft vs. The Covenant (girl witches vs. boy witches) OR The Craft vs. Ginger Snaps (witches vs. werewolves) On another night it'd be a National Treasure vs. The DaVinci Code double feature (secret societies and the Illuminati) " [More]
The meeting
By Ravie13 in Movie Games
"Sid and Nancy were sitting in a delicatessen looking rather dazed and confused. Walking the Line between the good, the bad and the ugly they sipped on ther cocktails. It was the point of no return between them. They knew what they wanted and this meeting was the last resort. Nancy looked at him. She was a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown but she kept up the charade of a happy-go-lucky valley girl. But, nervously, she pushed the drink away and looked into his tired eyes. "Sid, I want a divorce." " [More]

"OH I thought this discussion was going to be about FICTIONAL movies within movies ... like the one they're making within In Bruges, etc. Meta reference it is then... how about when Joanna Barnes who played "Vicky" in Disney's THE PARENT TRAP (the money--grubbing fiancee that the twins are trying to knock out of the picture) showed up as "Vicki," the mother of Meredith (the money-grubbing fiancee that the twins are trying to knock out of the picture) in the 1998 remake of The PARENT TRAP? (I hated that part of Oceans 12 ... I just thought that was so dumb. Julia Roberts pretending to be Julia Roberts... all so they could explain her pregnant belly?? Dumb.) Here's one - THE FRESHMAN. It's sort of a spoof of mobster movies and Marlon Brando plays the Godfather-esqe character ... though he's not really mafia. SON OF RAMBOW? That's the point of the whole movie. Doris Day played "Jan Morrow" in PILLOW TALK which was a referenct to Jeanne Moreau, the french actress. They were making ... " [More]

"The first one that always comes to mind when I think about montages is the dating sequence from THE NAKED GUN. I also think there was a good montage in NORTH SHORE as he learns to surf on a variety of different boards until he's finally ready. " [More]
