This movie is an entirely accurate re-telling of a true story. Although this story is usually depicted with Jim Elliot as the main character- this time its told from the point of view of Steve
Saint, the son of Nate Saint- the pilot of the missionaries’ airplane. The story is about five missionaries and their wives and children traveling over to live and work in the jungles of South America to search for the Waodani, to change their hearts and their traditions (which is basically “spear- or be speared”) when they finally found the Waodani tribe, they were ecstatic- and they used an old idea of Nate’s to leave them gifts (in an attempt to form a friendship) finally after a few weeks they found a sand-bar that just might be big enough to land on. So they packed a bunch of stuff and went. The meeting between Nate and the Waodani goes terribly wrong thanks to the Missionaries’ inability to understand the Waodani language, and Nate and four of his fellow missionaries are savagely murdered by the Waodani. However, in the final moments of his life, Nate is able to accurately give an important message to Mincayani (the leader of the Waodani) in the Waodani language. Although the movie is sad, it ends in a very happy way.
You will love the ending credits (they play clips of the real people portrayed in the movie)
One of the clips they play is Mincayani’s visit to America... its so sweet.
Honestly, the whole film will change your perspective on life.
