Foodies & Film
"Hey, any film foodie wanting a platform to express a little more culinary/cinematic opinion? I'm the leader of, well, several groups and need a little help here. Volunteer for group leadership by messaging me. Please tell me about the following. Maybe I'll promote you... --the last meal you cooked --the last movie you watched --the last time you watched a movie while eating --your 5 top condiments and WHY and, possibly, where you got them Of course I may promote more than one, so your chances aren't limited if you answer thoughtfully and creatively. Good luck! " [More]

"Good point, though I must admit that I've never seen this film. Anyway, the vault police seem to be more an economic entity regulating supply and demand than the PC police...but maybe they're a combination of both. " [More]

Worst Movie Ever
"I put this on the "Worst Movie Ever" list and posted the following comment: This was one of those "it's on TV and I'm sick" movies...but it made me sicker. 15 monkeys with 15 typewriters in a timewarp could write a better story than this...and I've seen better performances by highschoolers doing shoddy Shakespeare...and when my spouse called me to see what he had done in the yard I went running to get away from this trainwreck pile of crap. "Group members, welcome kungfu-koala to our group! We need more folks like you who love the art of the musical and wish there were more singing and dancing in this world. And, kungfu-koala, please contribute to the discussion about your favorite musicals...it's further down on our conversation list. " [More]

See it on stage, not film

The Musical-Lovers and Critics
"I've only heard bad things about this movie...not that The Fantasticks is bad, but because this was created to be a PLAY not a movie. Of course, there are a lot of musicals that have been turned into movies, and many of them have transferred just fine. But part of the magic of this show is its constant Brechtian conceits (more difficult to do on film, I think), references to the theatre world, and low-budget set. Has anyone seen the movie as well as staged performance? I'd like to hear some comparisons and contrasts. For those interested, I'm playing the mute in Heritage Theatre Group's production this summer. We run in a rep. schedule, so performances are scattered about, but if you're interested, contact me and I'll get you the dates. (Or post the confusing schedule here...just let me know.) PS: Another turn-off for me is who plays Matt in the movie. It's the New Kid on the Stage, Joey McIntire. " [More]

Movies we do not want to see
"I totally agree with Pippin06. This is a great movie with interesting character development. I haven't seen Spanglish, (I know...I should.) but Sandler gives a great performance. And the storyline is really good, although it made me feel uncomfortable at times--not a fault of the filmmaking, but a result of the fact that it was so good. " [More]

"davisfreeberg, This is a great, grassroots way to promote Spout while giving constructive criticism. I was wondering what your criteria for membership is? Are you going to try to have as many members as possible? (As I'm trying to do in the We'd buy these if we could... group.) " [More]
