"I was satiated, but I didn't really need to see Bart's middle-aged-quality angst about his dysfunctional father emoting from his 10-year-old body. The movie doesn't have quite the same edge as the show since the villain prompts all of Springfield to band together to fight their common enemy. The townsfolk don't behave nearly as naughty as I would have liked. "

"A suspense movie with a smart sense of humor, The Fallen Idol leads you along its twists and turns by dropping hints and playing with your notions of how typical suspense movies play out. It's the sort of movie I would imagine Francois Truffaut would make with one of his idols, Alfred Hitchcock.Young Phile (Henrey) and his idol Baines (Richardson) are two of a kind; they mean well, but whenever they attempt to do what's right, they bungle everything up. Both yearn to break free from the hawk eye of authority and each takes his turn in subverting it, with various consequences.Richardson is charming and earns my empathy, though, through the course of the story, I can understand how Phile could come to the conclusion he does. Though the movie is pretty much in the point-of-view of Phile (there's one scene that isn't quite, but I'll overlook it), it's not sentimental. It allows us to feel the tension through Phile without pushing him on us. The wonderfully funn ... "

"And I think it's because Cusack never gets rained on in this movie. In his better movies, he gets drenched with rain. In this one, he just gets snowed on. Which is fitting for this movie, because it tries really hard to be witty and sweet but doesn't quite make it. "

Lots of fun with great characters

"I saw it twice because I just fell in love with the characters. The plot is silly, Timothy Daulton is a riot, and Simon Pegg does a great David Caruso impersonation. The longish back story pays off when Danny (Nick Frost) finds his inner badass. It's about a half-hour too long and there are parts you could cut out and not particularly miss, but I'm still glad they're there.Great move in casting Martin Freeman, Steve Coogan, and Bill Nighy as Seargant, Police Inspector, and Chief Inspector, respectfully. I can picture Freeman growing up to be Coogan and Coogan growing up to be Nighy. "

"Bruce Campbell plays Elvis, who is alive because he switched places with an Elvis impersonator back in the 70s after he got tired of fame and his soul-sucking friends. The impersonator is the one who died from the drugs and so the king is rotting away forgotten in an East Texas rest home, which is cursed by an Egyptian soul-sucking mummy.Together with a black man who believes he is JFK (Ossie Davis) with dyed skin and a bag of sand where the blown-out part of his brain used to be, Elvis sets out to kill the mummy before the mummy kills him and takes his soul, the one true thing of his he has left. But fighting the mummy only takes up the last half hour of the movie. Before that, Elvis has to come to terms with how his life turned out. The main mummy of the movie is Elvis. This isn't one of those New Age-y mid-80s body switching movies. Elvis switched places with the impersonator through a legal contract that was burned to ashes in a big barbeque catastrophe. If Elvis went public ... "
