Personal statement:
I like: Silent Films, Horror, American Movies of the 30s, 40s and 70s, Italian films, Both Neo-Realism and later, French film, especially from the 60s and onward, almost all Asian Cinema, Coming of Age Stories, Stories about Outsiders, John Cassavetes, to name a few...
I dislike: Most mainstream American films made since 1980, romantic comedies made after 1980, most period pieces, bio-pics not made by Milos Foreman, Remakes of Horror Classics, American Remakes of Japanese Horror, Michael Bay, two hour music videos, two hour plays that happen to have been photographed, films where a crucial meaning or point is spelled out verbally in the final minutes when the total experience of the film has already illuminated this point in broader, more powerful and more perfect wordless way. Nothing rains on my parade more than this. The King of the Ants, directed by Stuart Gordon, is a great example of this. But then again, "I guess we keep going through it because, uh, most of us need the eggs."
