"This film was fantastic! i did not stop crying, its based on a true story and its about a mother who realises she has cancer she has 11 children and a alcaholic husband, when she tells the husband this he is very upset, but as he is an alcaholic she wont leave her children with him, so she finds a home for each and every child. its very sad. "My twelve year old son was thumbing through the channels yesterday (Sunday Nov. 14? 2009) when he came upon Hester Street maybe ten minutes into the movie. He had no intention of stopping but something about the lighting, dialogue, acting, setting... The movie just pulled me into it. I watch a lot of moves and I have a regular comfortable positition on the couch I always use to watch movies. Not so with "Hester Street." I sat on the very edge of the couch the entire movie, completely enthralled. I laughed, I wept and I was even angry. But in the end I was left with a feeling of joy I haven't felt in a long time. Why aren't there more movies like this one? It is a true gem " [More]

"I didnt dare buy a pirated cd of it coz i really planned to watch it on the big screen! And now, my long wait paid off. . id been waiting for this movie for almost 3 months already and finally it's dominating the cinemas now! blockbuster, i should say! it was my 1st time to watch a movie alone. . sad? yeah. . but i was wrong.. coz i realized lately, it's fun to watch alone. . much focused on the movie..rather than entertaining a companion. . It's a story of grief, love, sacrifice, heroism, bit of humor. . perfect for a family. . i cried twice coz i can't imagine myself saying good-bye to ur loved ones and having a devastating end.. i have to admit..the first part was boring for me but it became intense as it went on. . it was really frightening. . conscience-bothering. . and mind-disturbing. . dont know if we have to believe it..but one thing is for sure..this world will end. . People caused this catastrophe that's why we are tasked to cease our wrongdoings. .reawaken. . there ... " [More]

"I have seen the movie yesterday and didn't like it that much. It seemed pretty fake to me like, the hundreds of meteors falling out of the sky just when they were talking about the end of the world! Though if you dont look at how silly some parts are the movie would be a good one to pick in the cinema near you. Roland's "The Day After Tomorrow" is still MY favorite and I highly recommend it. "I wanted to go and watch a nice end of the world movie, 2012, only to realize that it was a continuation of the themes that have flooded out TV (but not only..) media in the past months. In a nutshell, 2012 teaches us: - the world is going to end on the 21st of December of 2012. They devote a few minutes to explain why. Zero time to explain how come that the Maya knew about it way before us. Not important, I guess - Obama is a good president that is trying to save the world. But with a twist! The African-American president, which is Obviously Obama since we are in 2009, dismisses the white aide to listen to the much more human and knowledgeable two African-American colleagues. This is just a beginning, and there is a big twist! - Since Obama is such a big character to be supported by a single actor, it is intelligently spread across several characters, namely: -- obviously, the president, from now on O1, that unlike the one in "the day after tomorrow" has a big heart and loves hu ... "I watched this movie tonight before hearing or reading anything from you guys... I'm a 42 yr old married mother, with 2 teenagers and I enjoyed the movie!!! You need to sit back and enjoy how realistic everything looked~ Rather than how many obstacles John's family overcame! I found myself crying multiple times and bit my nails which I never do! I SAY GO SEE IT ON THE BIG SCREEN~ GOOD SHOW... Since NO ONE actually knows what will truly happen in 2012! I pray it's NOTHING this bad! " [More]
