  • More of the same....

"At World's End" is just as complicated, frustrating, and ultimately boring as the sequel in this series.  Like "Dead Man's Chest," this third film feels as though a series of unrelated vignettes are tacked-on to one another in a dull sequence.  The plot is almost incomprehensible in the first half, and the film feels as though it is trying to pack as much mythology into the film as possible. The result is a bloated, overloaded and utterly confusing script.  I didn't feel like I cared about any of the characters and I never felt any suspense at all.  And....just as I began to breathe a sigh of relief that the movie was coming to a close, they set up for another sequel (#4).  That one, I told my wife, I will not see under any circumstances.

    Bottom line: 1 eye-patch out of 5

  • Strange Title; Great Movie

"I Wake Up Screaming" is a great mystery from the 1940s.  The title is completely misleading: it is not suspenseful or dark at all.  Originally, the film was going to be released with the title "Hot Spot" but the stars lobbied to have it changed back to the title of the book upon which it is based.

Very interesting characters, great dialogue and an solid conclusion.

Yahoo has a new trailer now that is the best one yet.  It looks REALLY fun.

  • So bad it's good....

"Teenagers from Outer Space" is actually a really fun movie.  But it falls into the category of "so bad it's good."  The script, acting, and special effects are terrible.  And the ending is a huge let-down.  However, I watched it with the guys from MST3K on their volume 6 and their jokes really helped it along.  They have some great lines during the film, and on one of the breaks they discuss the difference between "Reel" life and "Real" life.  Pretty funny stuff.

  • Charlotte's Web is not magical or even enjoyable.

    Charlotte's Web  (2006)

My wife and I decided to watch the new version of Charlotte's web.  It was so bad we decided not to finish it.

The casting is terrible.  No one who knows anything about Dakota Fanning can imagine her pushing a little pig around in a baby stroller and whining to her mom about not being able to say goodnight to Wilbur in the barn.  Julia Robert's voice as Charlotte is so distinctive, every time she spoke it pulled me out of the movie.  As for the other animals - I just found their voices annoying.

You can tell they tried to make this a magical movie, but it just doesn't work.  The plot feels like it's plodding along and nothing feels special.  I didn't feel like I cared about any of the animals.

I give it one pig out of five.
