[What do you think?]
"Although I've watched thousands of movies, At Play In The Fields Of The Lord is one of the most memorable and compelling true-2-Life dramas I have seen. It is a tale of survival, greed, hope and innocence of being. A stellar cast includes John Litgow, Kathy Bates, Aiden Quinn, Darryl Hannah; and also features real tribes from the amazon/Brazil. Not only entertaining, the true message it sends is important to the survival of these peoples, of whom the story is about. I have to wonder if political oppression is behind the descision to suppress its ugly head, as you cannot find this movie released on DVD anywhere. What a shame, for not only quality acting and meaning of story are an important feature of this film but the scenery of the unspoiled, undeveloped land is absolutely breath-taking. This is a long film, -over 3 hours, but well worth it. You must have free time to settle in, focus and enjoy the film and its heartbreakingly- true message. Make certain to make the popcorn ahea ... "

Please reference this thread for the rules of this group. What about Peter O'Toole who usually WAS drunk whilst performing a drunk character in a movie... What about Dean Martin in Rio Bravo and Robert Mitchum in El Dorado ... (my "link a movie" function still isn't working too good...) ... < GOR >
I agree with you about Dudley Moore in ARTHUR ! So many drunks, b ... "

Criterion Collection
"
There are 4 films I believe are crying out for the Criterion treatment:First, there's "The Red Balloon", a seminal film (I'd first seen it in kindergarden) that I'd recently purchased via some Korean import. Needless to say, the transfer is heartbreaking - it looks like a home movie projected onto a blanket hanging on the wall - you can almost hear the whir of the projecctor. Next, Gregory Peck's "The Snows Of Kilimanjaro" was nominated in 1953 for the Best Color Cinematography Oscar, but you'd never guess is judging from the various "Dollar Double Feature" DVDs hanging out at Wal-Greens all over the country. I think I've managed to find the best transfer out there (thanks Treasure Box), but it's still downright laughable. My uncle loved this film and I've watched this many times over the years thanks to him, but I really wish I could see it how he saw it back when it had it's theatrical run. Tom Waits' 1987 concert film "Big Time" is one I've never seen, ... "
