Two films by Elem Klimov

"Dear Criterion Collection,Please would you present a treatment of two films by Elem Klimov, 'Come and See', and 'Agony'. I can see these being presented in a double feature set, or by themselves. 'Come and See', which is currently released on Kino, is one of the best war films I've ever seen. Klimov shows an incredible mastery of technique, creating a story about the belurussian holocost that swings from the surreal to the savage, ending in one mindblowing montage worthy of Einstine. This movie has not recieved the attention it deserves, and caputres a unique perspective on war, through the eyes of a young boy, to an effect so cathartic I couldn't speak for an hour. (OH, by the way, thank you for putting out "Ivan's Childhood". I'm looking forward to seeing that.) On second thought, could you pair 'Come and See' with Klimov's wife's final film 'The Ascent' (1979)? I'm wanting to see that, and plus, its interest ... " [More]
