"I found Jonathan Demme's documentary about the life of Haitian radio journalist, Jean Dominique, to be incredibly moving. The history of Haiti can be a carbon copy of any of the histories of many Third World countries. With that you have many opposing points of view. The actual situation of many of them has been the result of coup d’etats, military regimens, oppressive governments, and strong economical interests. There has been a strong influence coming from both the United States as well as Europe. Several nations had armed conflicts due to movements supported by the now defunct Soviet Union, as well as China. But, the object of this documentary is not Haiti’s history, although it is intertwined with every single aspect of Dominique’s life. His life is what drives this story. You see how his main objective in life is to see the respect of the people’s will, as well as the rule of law. And in this sense, I really think it accomplishes its goal. You get ... " [More]
Keeping with the tempo of life

"Excellent, excellent movie!! Roman Duris, as Tom, does a great job portraying a man that is living two very distinct, but a the same time, very legitimate realities. What is fascinating is to discover the two Toms, one who is the very violent and enraged collector for his fater, and the other, the one who still has dreams of being a concert pianist. You caan see the turmoil he has inside, and the way come things come together at the end. It is also extremelly touching to see the relationship between him and his piano tutor. " [More]
The opposite of an ordinary thr ...

"I couldn't be more excited of writting my thoughts on this great film. Breach is definitely not what you would consider an ordinary thriller. There are no huge explossions, carchases, karate kicks, etc. However, you are on the edge of your seat throughout the whole movie, being drawn to it by the incredible story of one traitor and his pursuit. This movie wouldn't be what it is without the amazing portrayal of Robert Hansen that Chris Cooper made. He really grabs you with a very subtle but intense performance. Film after film where he is in, really reinforces my belief that he is one of the best actors we have today. This movie is about intensity. The intensity you can feel within Hanssen as he is closing a chapter of continuos betrayal to his country, which has expanded for several years. The intensity of the investigation and pursuit by the Bureau's team lead by a very focused performance by Laura Linney. And the main relationship between Hanssen and Eric O'Neil, who was portrayed ... " [More]
Just like an 80's video

"I love the 80's! My school and early college years were in the 80's. There are things I will always cherish about those years. One thing I don't though are the videos. If you have no idea how they looked like, watch this movie. These were almost 2 hours of fluff and puff, and no substance. Likewise, I love both Drew and Hugh but their roles and dialogue were full of cliches and "what you expect of them", that made time fly like... "molasses". I couldn't wait for it to be over. But like many 80's videos, it is stuck in my mind and I just can't wait for a real funny and witty movie to make these images disappear like many one-hit wonders from the 80's. " [More]
Now Batman really begins

"There is nothing more satisfying than having a franchise be revived by a visionary director who knows where he needs to take it. Case in point, Batman Begins. After seeing it being taken to ridiculous extremes, Christoper Nolan pulled it back to its dark origins, to the angst of the heroe, to the humanity of its character. Christian Bale really represents what the comic was all about. Can't wait for the next one! Just a suggestion: Please drop Katie Holmes! " [More]
What a banquet!

"There are certain things that really compel me to see a movie. On the top five is food. So this was certainly a banquet for the eyes. It certainly transports you into the calm and peaceful lives of this little Danish town inhabitants. Many times we see these portrayals as exhaustingly ordinary. But you see how through Babette's eyes this was salvation. She touched their lives through her art, but it was she the one that was able to grab this coastal town as her lifesaver. " [More]
It moved me!

"It s incredible how a movie can bring such different reactions in people. I n my case, I am in the "fan" camp. I have the fortune of being able to interact in my daily work with people of different nationalities, living in different time zones, and many times I am touched by how much we impact each other lives. Most of the time by specific actions geared towards this purpose. But there's that percentage of minor actions or omissions to act that have consecuences in the lives of others. This is precisely what got to me. AGI really built a scenario where there are many lives that intersect in minor instances in their day-to-day. Yes, at times it seems dijointed, but isn't this what life is all about? So, I guess I will continue being a fan of AGI's films. Loved the acting. Loved the cinematography. Loved the music. Can't wait for the next one! " [More]
The intrigue of silence

"The Aura can be a difficult movie to appreciate. If you are a fan of Argentine movies, and you have seen Fabian Bielinsky's previous film "9 Queens"( which was remade mediocrily in English as "Criminal"), expect to see something that is completely the opposite. As the latter was more plot driven, this one is made around a charachter with very intricate traits. It is a movie filled with moral suspense, where the character portrayed greatly by Ricardo Darin is presented with dilemmas that increase as the movie progresses. It is sad that there will not be any more movies by this great filmaker as he died after its filming. " [More]
