DOOMSDAY
"As a native Californian, I'd have to go with the very cheesy "Earthquake" from 1974. Bad movie, but large earthquakes can and will happen out here. Just glad it had Los Angeles destroyed and not San Francisco. For more ridiculous ways to destroy LA (my Northern California bia is coming out), there's always the very ridiculous "Volcano" with Tommy Lee Jones. Sorry, I wasn't able to link either movie for some reason. "

"
I have a thing for Molly Shannon and went insane over Year of the Dog when it came out. Just a great bizarre comedy with the cutest dog in the world that almost made me forget that I don't really care for dogs.
I loved Year of the Dog too. But I am an animal lover, so it really affected me and left me very sad for a couple days after - I appreciated the comedy, but I also found it a little heartbreaking. And just to add some more dog movies, how come they don't make Cop/Dog movies anymore, like Turner & Hooch and K-9? Oh yeah... never mind. "

"I really liked him as Bob Harris in Lost in Translation, but I had to go with Don Johnston in Broken Flowers. Something about the way the character could just sit there staring ahead, completely unable to function or take action until prompted by someone else. "

"I felt bad for the Buffybot! And I'm also a huge Buffy fan. I think Spaceballs is one of those eminently quotable movies, like Caddyshack, that I can't get out of my head sometimes. "What's the matter Col. Sanders? Chicken?!!"
Haha, I LOVED Dot Matrix in Spaceballs. I think it has to do with my secret enjoyment of batsh*t crazy Joan Rivers. "What the hell was that noise?" "That was my virgin alarm. It's programmed to go off before you do!" Hilarious! And I will admit the I kinda liked the Buffybot. I almost shed a tear when she was pulled limb from limb. Yes, I am a Buffy freak.
"

"Maria is good! How about the Buffybot in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv series though)! But to get back to just androids, D.A.R.Y.L and Dot Matrix in Spaceballs. "Ullysses in Making Mr. Right was the best android ever played by John Malkovich - also counts as a sexbot, though he did malfunction when over stimulated.
The 6th Day (2000) Michael Rapaport's character can beam in his lady friend.
In keeping with the fembots/sexbots/gynoids and the like, Cherry 2000, with Melanie Griffith, was all about retrieving a replacement 'bot somewhere in no man's land. "
Well since probably my favorite film focusing solely on revenge was mentioned (She-Devil), I'm gonna have to go ahead and list those that pale in comparison. Jaws: The Revenge - The first Jaws is incredible, but not really about revenge. The fourth installment, with revenge blatantly placed in the title, is a great little B-movie that increased my fear of sharks and has made me vow to myself to never get on a floatation device that gets dragged behind a boat: cause you know great white sharks love that shit. I was recently able to see Machine Girl which was insanely gory and loaded with laughs. Premise: a young school girl gets revenge by attaching a Gatling gun to her amputated forearm and killing the bullies that picked on her and her brother. A Nightmare on Elm Street is more or less a revenge flick about Freddy killing the kids of those who killed him. Carrie gave mousy nerds in high school hope of becoming telekinetic and getting revenge on all those s ... "

"Some that come to mind that were based entirely on revenge are She-Devil, which I thought better than I expected it would be, and Ruthless People. The 1980s seemed to be good times for the revenge business. I'm sure a lot of the old hard-boiled film noirs could essentially be about revenge as well. "

Star Wars

"
It is true that the Sports movie genre is one of the most cliched genres out there. I guess because it's all about competition, and rooting for someone, and if you try to thwart the audiences expectation in too many ways they will just get pissed. Just like fans of an actual sport. They will watch it week after week, hoping for the same outcome every time (that their team will win). Whether the team wins or not is how they judge their enjoyment of the game, not many other factors you can play with there.
Cliched yes, but other than the Star Wars saga and most Disney films, it's hard to think of another type of movie that really embodies Joseph Campbell's hero's journey mythology like the sports movie (although with abbreviated or skipping steps). Grew up in the 80's
"In 1980 (I was about 5), I saw Nine to Five in a drive-in. I think that's the first movie I saw in a theater (of sorts). The next one I remember actually going to a theater to see was Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981. I didn't understand Nine to Five at the time, but I was totally excited about Raiders of the Lost Ark!
