"Had to go with "Plantes, Trains, and Automobiles" myself. It's one of the few movies where the comedy and tragedy really do play incredibly well off of each other, and you end up loving both characters despite the fact that they should be insufferable. "Ferris Bueller," of course, has to be a close second, just for the Charlie Sheen cameo alone. "

"To be fair, I've only seen 3 of these, but GoodFellas (1990) was the best of those. Taxi Driver was dull up until the rampage(I know, that's blasphemy), and Casino was traumatic (for the same reason that My Cousin Vinny was traumatic--the thought of Joe Pesci as a love interest--bleh). "

"Albert Finney--but I'd watch him in just about anything. And I have a huge soft spot for cheesy '70s movies. "

"I have to go with Steve Zissou (I haven't seen Garfield or City of Ember). While I liked Broken Flowers and Lost in Translation, Murray's characters in both were helpless and depressing, the kind of guys who have things happen to them rather than the kind who do things. Zissou was a take charge kind of guy--yeah, his plans were poorly thought out and haphazardly excecuted, but I prefer borderline lunatics who take some action to languishing sad sacks. "

The Galaxy Invader
Delightfully awful

"Galaxy Invader is a hoot, from the silly redneck stereotypes, to the tacky space ray gun, to the hilariously bad "special effects," to the rampant nepotism in casting. There is really nothing good to say about this movie, which makes it one of those rare awful movies that is truly wonderful just because it is so bad. It's a pity it never got the MST3K treatment (though it did show up, oddly, during the credits for "Pod People.") "

The Fall
Prettiest movie ever

"This is the first movie I've seen in years where I was completely enthralled from start to finish. The Fall is also by far the best looking movie I've ever seen. Catinca Untaru is perfect and the least "actorly" child actor I've ever seen (which is a very, very good thing.) While the story told here by Roy (Pace) is not a very good narrative, it serves its purpose well; after all, the "epic" isn't really the point. The psychology behind the characters and the relation of the child's imagination to real life is the real meat here, and I loved every minute of it. "

The Bear

"When I was little, I was part of a bank savings club that would play a free movie every Christmas at the local theater (that’s where I first saw Christmas Story.) When I was about 6, they played The Bear. I don’t know if the movie wasn’t screened before hand and they just went on the PG rating, or if it was a cruel, cruel joke, or if someone really did think baby bears high on 'shrooms, mauled horses, and guys vomiting from fear were great viewing for kids, but I do know that by the time the mother bear dies (about 10 minutes in) I was terrified. I continued to be terrified until the end; other kids burst into tears from time to time and had to be led out by their parents. I think I made it to the end. I’ve watched it since, and enjoyed it, but I had bear-related nightmares for years. "
