Have you ever done research or have had interesting infomation thrown at you only to live your life and suddenly that piece of information makes a lot of sense when you see Angels and Demons?  Well, this is what happened to me.  If you know anything about the history of the Catholic Church and relate it to the book of the Apocalypse in the Bible, you could have come up with this movie's storyline, too.  I believe blasphemous situations occur between the red hats all the time.  Jesus is coming back to do some Spring cleaning soon, just you watch.

Since I have to teen girls, we treated Dad to a guy move, this robot movie.   Since I'm a Terminator fan, I was hoping to follow up with the current storyline.  I was at the edge of my seat the whole time!  Just when I thought the movie was coming to an end, something dramatically goes wrong and then here comes more action!  I wasn't  sure the kids would like it because they never seen the other movies with Arnold Sschwarz....egger.  But when the credits came up, they applauded the move. Good work!  Very good writing!

I brought my two girls to this movie expecting too much.  We really enjoyed the original Night at the Museum and we pop the DVD in every now and then when we need a supernatural good story.  In this version, however, I was only impressed with the different special effects.  We walked out of the theater disappointed and one of the kids said, "Whoever wrote this movie turned in the first draft."

    Coraline  (2009)

This movie looked so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o promising!  I absolutely love Halloween and thought  fer-sher I would love this kiddie flick with my kids.  It started off really well, very spooky ambiance, right?  Well, we get to the old gut-hanging over guy...1st "creep out."  Then the old ladies re-live their perverted youth as berlesque trapeze mermaids, one wearing just nipple glitter!   This was shocking!  All my friends said so, and they regret taking the kids out to see this so called masterpiece.

    Top Secret!  (1984)

I couldn't believe I saw this movie in the theater, and it's still being reviewed.  That means it's selling!  I'm glad.  I love the silly music that has funny lyrics and ridiculous musical perfomances.   This wasn't meant to win any oscars.  It's fun to point & spot the oddities and sing along.  There's a bit of crude humor (a reason why I can't say I love this movie), dry humor, wet humor (underwater bar fight), and even sky humor!  Have you ever sat at the dinner table with a bunch of old guys like Dad and the uncles  telling silly old war stories and jokes?  Well, it could be found in this crazy movie.  It measures the amount of humor in our own lives by asking, "How Silly Can You Get?".

I gotta shape my mashed potatoes like Devil's Peak!  The tempo is a little slow for this quickie generation.  The first third of the story, I asked myself , "What the..what's happening.. what is he thinking...etc."  Then I look for the required phrase in almost EVERY movie : "I don't understand."  That used to nearly kill me, but now I see it as an Easter Egg of sorts.  I would place a bet that someone would say it , oh, about 45min. into the movie.  This movie is an oldie,  where the story has to carry our interest to the very end, and not the cgi nor other fx.  Now that communication tune is playing in my head!  I would reccomend this movie to anyone who has had experience with UFO's and other weird creteures from Crete.  Ha ha, just kidding.  Sorry Ya-ya Billie.  Seriously, anyone who is studying film making should tear this movie apart and make another one.  This time with gobs of special effects.

  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars

    Under discussion:

I saw this movie with my husband  who is a Star Wars fan.  He thought it would be to the calibre of Lord of the Rings series of movies.   It was too "kiddy" for him, so the next week we took our 11 year old daughter, her best friend, and our teen daughter to see it.  I must admit, I liked it better the second time around.  Here's what the kids said about it:   "  Clone Wars is a super cool movie. We went to see it with our best freind, and we all shared the same favorite scene: when the captain of the clone troopers told a number of droids " You are out numbered. So the droid says" Hold on a sec... 1, 2, 3 *BOOM* " (Look out for this part of the movie. Everyone in the theater was laughing their heads off, especialy the little kids.)  Anakin Skywalker is still the good guy in this movie. The Girl in this movie 'Asolka' is a sassy charecter and a great Jedi -to-be.  I think (becuse of this movie) I might be a Jedi for Halloween.  I have to admit, this is in my mental list of favorite movies."

WALL-E is a cute story that my tweens liked a lot.  I believe they were studying the romantic butterfly dance between WALL-E and EVE.  I wasn't sure why the robots wanted to keep humans inactive.  Did they draw their evergy from himan fat cells?  Somebody help me with this, please.  I missed it.  I must have been munching on too much loud and crunchy popcorn.

    Tropic Thunder  (2008)

Tropic Thunder, Tropic Thunder... what can I say about this film?  While watching this, I got this nagging twitch in my cheek.  By the end, my eyes were dripping blood.  My brain was trying to escape from the theater without me!    I felt this was a first draft skit put together by bored rich guys.  Walking out of the theater, I scanned the posters of movies I wish I saw INSTEAD.

    Once  (2007)

I felt mostly  comfortable watching this movie, that I felt I was a little sibling, wishing I got a quarter every time someone said the f-word, (cha-ching!) , and following the characters around with my video camera.  Big brothers and big sisters always ignore little sibling tag-alongs.    The music was very nice.  In fact, I was going through Circuit City's soundtrack section when I saw "Once."   I didn't get it because I never saw the movie.  So I looked for the movie and WOW. Expensive!  Finally after thinking it over for a few months, I gave in.  I enjoyed the storyline of the movie but still don't know why that "Old World" of people have to cuss so much.  I guess they're a bunch of Fornicators Under Consent of King -ers.  My British friend said it's a way of life now, to profane everything casually.

I popped this movie in when I needed  to get out of the blues.  It worked!

Even though Billy Crystal is the funny one, Jack Palance stole the show.   He's that quiet and mysterious guy everyone wanted to figure out.

This is my favorite Gidget Movie.  It's sweet and it has has 2 nice guys fighting over her! There's a little bit of surfing in this story, and a bit more of comedic song and dance.  The story is funny and twisted and yes, there is an evil person trying ruin Gidget's vacation.

    Gidget  (1959)

    Blue Crush  (2002)

This is an all girl movie.  A surfing Cinderella or Roxy Balboa is what I got out of it.  The two girls in the background?  They are not her evil stepsisters.  No, they are her best friends and Hawaiian Hut Roomies who push their friend to the top of the Pipeline.   That's equivalent to going to the moon, for surfers.  Lots of girl problems to solve, sisterly girl moments and was fun to watch with my teen girls who like Gidget  and now want to surf in Hawaii.  This film is like any sport, if you take it too seriously, you won't enjoy it.  Gidget goes Hawaiian

What a fun movie to watch!  From start to finish, the story was alive.  No dead spots, and the boys knew how to have a good time surfing.  This movie was reccomended to me by a California surfer.

I saw the trailer and noticed the soundtrack of The Prince of Egypt playing.  I've always wondered what that cartoon movie would look like if it was made with real people and the new special fx.  It would be really cool if it were 3D at the IMAX.  That's the best for an epic story.

    Freaky Friday  (2003)

I would definitely freak out if this happened between my daughter and me!   This movie was fun to watch together, seeing the personalities switch.  The question, "Would you do that, mom?" came up frequently.   The characters made sacrifices for eachother.  We agreed we'd probably do the same.  Afterwards, we decided to pretend to do that magical switch. There was a lot of mimicking and mockery between us, and...  OMG, I didn't think she thought that lowly of me!

  • Hellboy

I think I would have named him Volcano Monkey instead of Hellboy if I discovered him.  He's a hero.  Heroes don't come from hell, but they can definitely give bad guys hell.  No other voice than Ron Pearlman's can make this character believable.  This series of cartoons is an entertaining reminder of the Spiritual Battle beyond the veil which is going on all around us.

    The Matrix  (1999)

I felt like I was dreaming with my eyes opened.  I like puzzles. Keanu Reeves , or Neo,  seems to be that last missing piece in the center of the puzzle that can free everybody from the heavy thumb of a psychological opressor.  In my twisted thinking, I found similarities between this movie and The Wizard of Oz

    Transformers  (2007)

OH YEAH! TRANSFORMERS RULE!!! When I saw the commercial in '06, the first thing I thought was,"No way, that's too boyish."  I saw the movie and I was hooked! I tried getting over Transformers once, but it didn't work. My first Transformer toy  was MEGATRON, and My first Star Wars one's name is SESEMIE TINN. Iv been colecting them for two years now and at the present day, I have 23 Transformers and counting. I enjoyed this movie! My favorite scene was the finale battle. When my Dad put the movie on my ipod, I watched it about a dozen times! This is no doubt,  my favorite action movie. I'm not going to tell all the juicy stuff for all the people who did  not see it.  but trust me, this is one you want to see. My Older sister said this is a guy film, like HOOTERS is a guy place.

Interesting storyline.  After seeing this film, I felt embarassed.  I couldn't watch this with my parents sitting next to me.  Too much skanky parts without warning. This movie would have a bigger audience if all the perverted writing was crossed out.   I cannot in good concience reccomend this to anyone.

    Speed Racer  (2008)

I've never seen anything like it before.  Part  real, part cartoon, lots of special effects and most of all... the drivers are master drifters!  I took a sharp curve and drifted once.  It's fun! But scary, too.  Luckily, the car belonged to Driver's Ed.                                                                               After getting off the elementary schoolbus, I couldn't wait to turn on the Speed Racer cartoons with my brothers and sister.  It calmed them down, then we'd sing along with the theme.  Out loud.  What a weird bunch!  We'd role-play, too, afterwards.  My sister and I would have to fight to see who plays Trixie .  Loser gets to be the monkey.      So, when the movie came out,  I got really excited.  It was a deep story to tell, so you would have to already be familiar with the characters and their quirks to really appreciate the movie.    Cool Beans!

    Enchanted  (2007)

Lots of fun music. This princess is a bit like all the Disney princesses.  Animals follow her, it was love at first sight and stanza with a handsome prince, and there's a wicked stepmotherwith her own chemical plant.  So like the movies Shrek and Hoodwinked , it's a sing-along fairytale smoothie.

There's a battle between good & evil at all levels.  Not only is Dr. Jones smart, but he's cute too!  If he played an instrument or danced well, he could climb to 007 ranking!  Watching this scruffy guy running through life threatening obstacles, miraculously surviving and still managing to blush in the presence of his sweetheart makes him my hero.

    Hoodwinked  (2005)

This is the type of movie that grows on you.  I liked it more each time I saw it.  I saw it a couple of times, but then caught the Schnitzel Song and then the rest of the songs on You Tube and can't wait to see it again.  The lyrics of those cool songs are hilarious.  My kids love the critters and want to learn the words so they can sing along.  There's definitely a plot to this twisted story .   If you love to solve crime scenes or watch police detective movies, you might solve The Case of the Missing Recipes before you finish your popcorn.

The music is wonderful.  Some of the lyrics are a bit overcompensating, ...ahem!

    Watch your stage manners.

Boys, America wants boy bands that appear squeaky clean.  We are willing to spend thousands on our teen girls music from gentlemen who write ballads on love, not lust.  The Beatles kept with that simple formula and won our hearts.

    Just My Luck  (2006)

Marty McFly was lucky to hang around a mad scientist.  That's a dream neighbor for bored kids to go to after eating breakfast cereal in front of the Saturday Morning Cartoons.  What an adventure of a lifetime, to time- travel without losing body parts along the way!

I recognized the name "Mc Fly " right away when I saw the movie Just My Luck.  I thought that British boy band would be a Back to the Future type band.  I was wrong.  But now I have 3 of their CD's.

    Moulin Rouge  (2001)

This movie, believe it or not, is full of hidden meanings.  I picked up on it the 5th time I sang along with them.  I love the songs so much, I bought both music CD's.  If I mentioned everything I enjoyed about this movie, it would mostly be about the music.   I understood the story the second time I saw it.  So it could have had more hints and premises leading up to the fast paced jokes. I should have paid more attention to the brilliant deep reds & gold colors of the different backgrounds to help me along.  It was visually stunning from props to costumes to special-fx.  I will love this movie 'till my dying day.

    A Knight's Tale  (2001)

It's a sort of Cinderella story, but guy-style.  Instead of a girl becoming a princess,  a peasant boy becomes a knight.  What a high honor, to be knighted!   What girl can resist a cute guy determined to win her affections by passing her blood thirsty tests?  My eyes rolled,  followed by giggles.  And that was just in the opening scene!
