"Ok, so I finally saw The Orphanage (2007) this past weekend. My best friend had warned me against seeing it; stating simply, "That movie sucks!" Eloquent and well-thought-out as his review was I thought to check it out for myself and it was actually quite good. I suspect that my friend did not like it because he is a big fan of violence and gore. The film was marketed as a horror movie but it really had neither of those elements. So yes, if that's what you're looking for "The Orphanage" will be a sore dissapointment. It is much more of a mystery/thriller than a horror flick. A lot of people, I'm sure, saw Guillermo Del Toro's name attatched and were expecting the next "Pan's Labyrinth". This is not that either. While it does have aspects of the supernatural, "The Orphanage" is much more about human nature and psychology. "I'm bummed that some people already took my picks for the cast but here is my list anyways- if they really were going to remake it today (which would be blasphemy- but I'll put that aside for this purpose): Brady Corbet ... Andrew 'Andy' Clark Michael Cera ... Brian Ralph Johnson Paul Dano ... John Bender Mandy Moore ... Claire Standish Jena Malone ... Allison Reynolds J.K. Simmons ... Principal Richard Vernon Christopher Maloni ... Carl the Janitor I thought of a lot of actors who could play Andrew Clark but none as good as Brady Corbet- he looks the part and he's a great young actor. He might even do better than Emilio. I immediately thought of Michael Cera for the role of Brian and I see I was not alone. Michael Cera is basically the Anthony Michael Hall of today. Let's hope he doesn't get all bulked up and scary looking later in life. Paul Dano as John Bender. This was the toughest role to recast. I spen ... "

"Owen Wilson ... Dr. Peter Venkman Kevin James ... Dr. Raymond Stantz Jason Bateman ... Dr. Egon Spengler Donald Faison ... Winston Zeddmore Diane Lane ... Dana Barrett David Cross ... Louis Tully Linda Cardenalli ... Janine Melnitz Bradley Whitford ... Walter Peck George Segal ... Mayor John Heder... Male Student Anna Faris ... Female Student Milla Jovovich... Gozer Here's my reasoning: Owen Wilson as Peter Venkman because he's the only contemporary actor I can think of who can pull off that Bill-Murray-esque charming humor. I can totally see him as the goofy womanizing Venkman. Kevin James as Ray because he's funny but he's also the kind of dumpy regular guy like Dan Aykroyd. Jason Bateman as Egon... come on- can't you see it? Slap some glasses on him... yeah. He's actually a great ac ... "
