"
Sadly, I've only seen the one...Crouching Tiger. But I surely liked it! :-)
Tough call between Crouching Tiger and Hero. I love them both, but the colors and twists of Hero won my vote. "

"Definitely German Expressionism. Most Tim Burton is reminiscient of this era, and quite a bit of Steampunk. They really utilized the mise-en-scene of film and explored so many possibilities. Metropolis (1927) The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919) The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is still one of the best suspense movies I've ever seen, even considerin the technological advancements. "

"
I have to admit that Pythonesque would most likely get me into a theatre. I think that comedies rarely disappoint, whereas I feel dramas/adventure/action/etc. flicks are much more hit or miss!
I don't know. I saw a pythonesque movie once, which failed to be funny and instead turned out to be 2 of the worst hours of my life. I chose Hitchcockian personally. "

"I settled in for Ten Canoes one night, unsure of what to expect from this aboriginal parable/comedy. Case study or documentary, I was unsure of what the evening would entail. I've long learned to distrust the genre of comedy, since opinions vary greatly as to what makes comedy, but I found Ten Canoes to be a slow, yet interesting view into aboriginal life and thought. The cinematography was reminiscent of Nova or National Geographic in its style. Long, sweeping nature shots showcased the beauty of virgin forests like a Terence Malick film. Whether by design or by accident, the scenery occasionally upstaged the action, which moved at a pace that made you feel that you had been transported back to a campfire tale. Clothed in what I can only presume is their native dress, they made jokes about anatomy that seem to be universal. They succeeded in showing the audience that we haven't changed much, despite technological advances. I've been told that the way David G ... "

"Samir, with his evident temper problems, does everything in his power to win the heart of the beautiful Rani. Yet, it seems that everything he tries fails, or the credit is given to his roommate Sunny. For example, when Samir refuses to move his altar when Sunny arrives, Sunny simply hangs up his posters wherever he can. Then Rani visits and presumes they are Sunny's altar and Samir's bikini posters. Yet, it all works out in the three hours, through complications and revelations. On the plus side, the movie is probably the first Hindi movie that uses the songs to move the plot along instead of simply using the requisite song-and-dance to show off the beauty of the leading characters. The music is top-notch and catchy, with typical lovey-dovey lyrics. The production value is high and use of color catches and delights the eye. Evidence of Western Influence: No true Hindu would wear white on their wedding. White is what you wear to funerals. So a white wedding dress is out of ... "

"I like Almodovar. A lot.I was in Spain while his latest, Volver, was realeased and there was a general air of excitement surrounding the acclaimed director.Todo Sobre Mi Madre is a film about relationships and what we do with those relationships. We pick our family. We choose our friends, our lovers, our paths. Almodovar attempts to explore the difficulties of a modern conception of what a family means, in terms of parenting and also stepping in to take care of others. One of the things that I enjoy is his ability to explore the multple facets of characters. Concurrently working backwards in time and forward with the plot, the viewer comes to understand everything about a woman who sacrificed for her son, and the entwined pathways that lead her to the present. This film is not for the faint of heart, nor is it something to just pop in the VCR on a fun friday night with friends. It challenges your beliefs on homosexuality, drugs and family. Almodovar is very cynical about the Cath ... "

"You can find Veer Zaara, as well as Bollywood Hollywood (Deepa Mehta's interpretation of what Bollywood means) at Blockbuster, ironically enough. The public library also has a few good titles, like Omkara and Lage Raho Munna Bhai, which I would suggest. "
