Find movies you'll love
Personal statement:

I like to see movies that don't rely on violence, cruelty or other negativity. Movies that do, may give me a kick, at best, or make me feel disgusted, at worst, or they may blunt my sensitivity towards people and beauty. In any case such movies don't give me a good feeling afterwards. They touch things in me like anger, despair and other negative things that are hidden (or sometimes not so hidden) in myself, without doing anything to help me deal with it in a positive way.

Do I only like movies then, in which everyone is nice to everybody else, and the nicest one gets a prize?

Surely not. If a movie deals with painful things and struggle, I can feel very good about it afterwards. That happens if the film maker intended the film to be helpful. I feel good when a movie gives me hope and inspiration to overcome my shortcomings and the obstacles my life; when a movie brings out courage, love, friendship, sensitivity and other good things in me.

I hope to find such films in Spout, and people who share my view (or want to discuss it)!

Shall we dance - rewards patience

"Shall we dance is a slow -moving movie. It is interesting for people who can do without violent action and a bombardment of impressions. The movie shows life in Japan and its often inhibited people, and a few people who have the courage to escape from it. If you have patience, the movie will reward you with a gradually developing plot and an interesting ending, and with subtle relationships between people. For people who like ballroom dancing it is certainly worth watching. " [More]

"Disaster in Time, a.k.a. Timescape and as Grand TourThis is a remarkable SF-film based on the novel by Henry Kuttner and his wife Catherine Moore written in 1946, Vintage Season. Remarkable because it lacks spectacular special effects, explosions and cruelty and is still interesting. This movie shows that human characters and a good what if... idea can produce a film that is worth watching.People used to restless and violent movies may not agree. There are a few imperfections, like Ben berating Ben for leaving his wife after the accident, as if the first Ben hadn't done the same, and the ending is hope-giving if you don't think too deeply about it.Yet for people who like to see real people with real emotions struggle for themselves and their loved ones, this is a SF-movie to watch. "An intriguing movie with a good ending (no special effects needed to keep my attention). Pity that every other sentence contains a four-letterword; maybe interesting for some teenagers but not for the rest of us...I rate the film not more than three stars because it was only interesting, but not a film that improved my life. I like to see movies that don't rely on violence, cruelty, four-letterwords or other negativity. Movies that do, may give me a kick, at best, or make me feel disgusted, at worst, or they may blunt my sensitivity towards people and beauty.
