Personal statement:
I like to see movies that don't rely on violence, cruelty or other negativity. Movies that do, may give me a kick, at best, or make me feel disgusted, at worst, or they may blunt my sensitivity towards people and beauty. In any case such movies don't give me a good feeling afterwards. They touch things in me like anger, despair and other negative things that are hidden (or sometimes not so hidden) in myself, without doing anything to help me deal with it in a positive way.
Do I only like movies then, in which everyone is nice to everybody else, and the nicest one gets a prize?
Surely not. If a movie deals with painful things and struggle, I can feel very good about it afterwards. That happens if the film maker intended the film to be helpful. I feel good when a movie gives me hope and inspiration to overcome my shortcomings and the obstacles my life; when a movie brings out courage, love, friendship, sensitivity and other good things in me.
I hope to find such films in Spout, and people who share my view (or want to discuss it)!
