"It is obvious that Chytilova and Forman do not get along. Her questions are antagonistic and intented to provoke Forman, and his answers are purposefully curt and lack insight, as he clearly has no interest in the interviews. The result is that neither subject nor interviewer comes off as authentic, but instead performative of political and aesthetic dialectics: Chytilova the Communist aesthete, and Forman the Capitalist craftsman. "A lost classic of 1930s Hollywood comedies. Fantatic cast of character actors who (for once) get to play the leads: Una Merkel, Eugene Pallette, Nad Pendleton, Stanley Fields, Donald Meek, and of course Charles Butterworth. Insightful satire on both middle-class values, Capitalism, and gangster movies. Butterworth shines as his ever-befuddled, unable to adapt to society's conventions. Mistakenly branded a gangster by newspapers, it is hilarious to watch him try and speak iconic gangster dialogue with his trademark straight-faced delivery. Never released on video or DVD, but if you see it on TV or know a collector who has a copy, definitely don't miss it. " [More]
