Re:Nun Horror ...
By divinemsjunebug in HORROR MOVIES 101
"And wasn't Freddy Krueger's mother a nun and raped by a hundred madmen? It is amazing how many nun films there are, I guess I never thought of it before. Let's see, there is also the movie The Sinful Nuns of St. Valentine, The Nun, Killer Nun for a few more... BUT the scariest nun story is a true story that I just HAVE to tell. When I was in college I lived in a house filled with male strippers and drag queens, it was quite the party atmosphere. We had this one housemate named Joey who was obsessed with nuns. He had nun pictures everywhere in his room. He also loved to dress up as a nun and go walking in the graveyard at 5:00 in the morning where we used to live in Springfield, Missouri. Anyway, he was also very manic depressive and one day, one of the guys in the house ate Joey's food. Joey had a horrible meltdown, blaming all of us and we were all going to pay for that and we were ALL against him. So for 3 days he just glared at us and slammed doors and picked up knives ... Another Return of the Living De ...

"I saw the preview of this movie called Return of the Living Dead: From the Rave to the Grave. It looks pretty funny, has anyone seen it yet, it says it was made in 2005 but I hadn't heard of it, so it must have just been put on DVD? I will have to put it on my Netflix Queue and see if it's a waste of time. Now the first ROTLD is just a fun 1980s classic in my eyes - especially since I was such a punk rocker at that time. I know we have talked about it many times in this group, but it's still pretty cool and I haven't really seen a lot of cool effects like Tar Man in a lot of other movies...If you've seen it, let me know if it's a waste of space or just worth a look. Of course, you all know me, I will watch it and find something I like about it... " [More]
The American Nightmare
By divinemsjunebug in Zombie Obsession
"Has anyone seen this documentary yet? It was made in 2000 so I am probably really behind the times. It's actually really good. They had interviews with ALL the real horror masters, Romero, Carpenter, Cravens, Hooper, etc. They asked each of them what was behind the making of their movies. I had forgotten about a lot of things in the 1960s and this really brought things into reality. It was pretty sad though, as they were showing clips of Night of the Living Dead, they were also showing news clips of that time and there were times I couldn't tell the difference. From the lynchings and burnings to stoned hippies...ANYWAY, if you haven't seen it yet, I think you might like it. If you have seen it, what stuck with you the most? " [More]

Re:Best Horror film so far this ...

"I put it on my Netflix Queue, it was pretty top rated on there too. Speaking of movies that are remade: You know, we talk a lot about Japanese horror that has been remade here in the US but what about horror from different countries that have been remade. Sometimes I'm shocked to see a movie that I think is original and see the "Real" original from Germany or Sweden. Can anyone give any examples (that isn't Asian horror) of movies that we really wouldn't realize is a remake. One example for me, which isn't a movie, its a series, is The Kingdom - it was remade from Danish TV. I don't know if it was much better than the American series or not, but it wasn't too bad. Anyone know of any? ALSO, what are some other movies that have come out this year (2008 or end of 2007) that you have thought were pretty awesome. [quote user="NakedLunchRadioShow"] LET THE RIGHT ONE IN... is quite possibly the best movie of the year, the best vampire films in decades and a Masterpiece. Subv ... " [More]
This really wasn't a remake

"This really wasn't a remake of the original movie since the story lines and the killers were pretty different. Prom Night and killing and slashing was the only thing they had in common. Anyway, it was the usual kind of slasher film but at least in this one there was a motive and a mission to the killing. I don't know why they didn't go for an R Rating and really pump this movie up, I know they probably wanted more high school kids to go and see it, but I think it could have been a lot bloodier (even though I don't like a lot of gore, I just thought the killings were too clean). I thought the acting was pretty good, Brittany Snow did a great job. I probably won't add this to my dvd collection but I didn't think it was a bad movie... " [More]
Re:The Happening - Yay or Nay?
By divinemsjunebug in HORROR MOVIES 101
"Okay, I finally saw The Happening and I can agree with ALL of you here. I couldn't believe how bad some of the acting was especially when I have seen them all before in other things and thought they were pretty good, how strange. Any way, he must have given them the direction to act all wide eyed and innocent and whiney...hmmm, I'm not sure. BUT I do have to say that there were some parts I really did like. I thought the beginning was extremely creepy (not when Mark W. was teaching) but especially the construction workers. There were so many very cool scenes that I got a few chills from. The part with the old crazy lady made me jump a few times, good shock scenes. I do agree with Abby too that I thought it was strange how he had to explain some things making me think that he though only uneducated stupid people would be watching this movie...I just don't know. I did have to say that I figured it out instantly from the beginning, I thought I'm sure everyone figured that out ea ... " [More]
Crystal Skulls

"I've always been fascinated by the crystal skulls that have been found all over the world and really enjoyed watching several documentaries on it - I even think there was an Unsolved Mysteries story about them too. I can honestly say that I liked the documentaries much better than this movie. Now, I'm not saying it wasn't a fun movie, I was just disappointed a lot actually. It had such potential to be better!!! I don't know how, maybe a whole different story, maybe a different ending, maybe a more mystical approach? But it just wasn't what I was expecting. I wish Karen Allen and Harrison Ford would have had more airtime together and wish they would have got to bicker more which would have led to an incredible kiss...but it didn't happen that way. I also thought some of the lines were so corny. Cate Blanchett looked fabulous with her little black bobbed haircut and of course, her acting is always great no matter what she is in...ALL in ALL, it was a fun movie, just don't thin ... " [More]

"Okay, I have to say that Sunday morning I decided to go into work and finish some things that were hanging over my head, since I couldn't sleep. OF course the floor was deserted since I was there so early in the morning. It was a little spooky because it's such a huge place so I went into my office and slightly closed the door and just started working. Well, about an hour later I start to hear this strange cell phone ring. It's a little light tinkling bell sound. All that was going through my mind was that movie One Missed Call where there is a weird cell phone ring and then you get a scary picture or voice mail. Then I thought of how many times stupid people go to investigate the strange sound so I stayed put and closed my office door. It was really unnerving because I knew no one else was on the floor but every once in a while I would hear that cell phone ring. I started kind of laughing because I knew I was freaking out a bit all because of that ring. That was pretty p ... " [More]

Re:The Happening - Yay or Nay?

"Thanks for letting me know that. I agree with you, there are movies that I love that other people hate. I've heard some bad things about it from critics already but I think I will go this weekend and see for myself. [quote user="NakedLunchRadioShow"] Love him or hate him, M. Knight has managed to successfully make five great films under the Disney studios. The fact that he has managed to make great thrillers under a ``G`` rating and has been compared to Hitchcock says a lot. This is first R rated film and he is in total control breaking away from Disney. However he is also not allowing any pre screening for the film. Usually when this decision is made, it is bad news. I would recommend not waiting for a DVD release for several reasons. First he is known for his twist endings. By the time it makes it to DVD, that twist might be spoiled for you. Also this film will be the most talked about film of the summer. I have a feeling people will either hate it or love it. There will b ... " [More]
