"I just love how you start watching a film about a man in his struggle against millions all over London and you finish with his struggle against (I believe) six in a small mansion. The claustophobia. " [More]

"I think the two different horror related I usually think of are terror and discomfort.Terror such as that I felt when I watched Witches (Roald Dahl adaption) and Jumanji as a child. Then discomfort as when I recently watched Saw III with a friend and found myself in a mixture of distress and awe at a man having his limbs twisted.I can’t remember clearly the last time I found myself sutured into a horror enough to be engaged in fear. I remember being younger and being petrified of Chucky but I am unsure if it was terror of discomfort of the gore. The Ted Bundy film shocked me and definitely made me feel discomfort though I couldn’t say it terrified me. I suppose that’s beside the point as it’s not a horror.I guess that I cannot remember the last time I sat down and watched a horror film. Though I have just purchased Army of Darkness after loving Sam Raimi’s Quick and the Dead. I think it's because when people use film as an escape device or drug (no n ... " [More]

Is 28 Days Later... a Horror?
By MrSaturn in HORROR MOVIES 101
"Danny Boyle's are known to be psychologically claustrophobic and deal with addiction turning drugs into an abstract noun. After re-watching 28 Days Later… I couldn’t classify it. It starts off as with Sunshine in a broader state before ending up a struggle against other men instead of the original problem. Stop me if I am giving Danny to much credit here or being largely pretentious but I think it doesn’t do justice to call it a horror. " [More]

"Survive Style 5+ is such a fantastic film. I put off watching it for a short time due to the only English character played by Vinnie Jones but I was so very wrong. It is a small philosophically violent part that works fantastic and it is definitely worth watching. Dial H.I.S.T.O.R.Y is a documentary about Hijacking with editing darker than Brasseye or The Day Today. It contains scenes of crashing planes juxtaposed wtih 70s pop song The Hustle. It does so much and is a fantastic experience. " [More]
How I Learned To Stop Worrying

"This film is more than meets the eye and with it's blistering visuals it's very hard to believe. It is the return of director Danny Boyle who pushes a genre further by using what we have already seen.Just like in 28 Days Later... we see another seemingly typical genre movie full of techniques that some critics dub so obvious they claim it a homage or plagiarism. This is neither. Sunshine seems not to care for the rules of cinema and reaches an almost abstract presence. Its narrative is split into two halves one of character development and one of psychological claustrophobia and its cinematics struggle to contain themselves. The lead role is placed once again upon Cillian Murphy who plays the determined hero and very well he does. To back him up is Cliff Curtis who I later recognised in Die Hard 4.0, Chris Evans who I now enjoy after a slight worry with Fantastic Four and Rose Byrne who you can later see in the (disappointing) remake 28 Weeks Later. Note must be given to the ... " [More]

"My runners up would probably be Eagle vs. SharkDial H.I.S.T.O.R.YKoyaanisqatsiBric k I work from films I have seen this year not released. (In this case Eagle vs. Shark is the only on released this year) I saw Sunshine at the cinema and after leaving gave it 7/10. Then over the next few weeks I began to think about it and anticipated its release. Then after I saw it again and again I realised that this film works for me on so many levels. You have to understand that I believe cinema works on a personal and intrusive level (kinda philosophically) and that each personal experience grants it's own judgement and though Sunshine may not be the greatest film (with Boyle hurting critics by borrowing heavily from sci-fi classics) and a debatable reliance on special effects my personal experince was fantastic and there it gets that position.Sorry about the rant but I have to argue this point to many people as they constantly attack my choices.
