"Indeed"
Personal statement:

For a bowl of water give a goodly meal,

For a kindly greeting bow thou down with zeal,

For a simply penny pay thou back with gold,

If thy life be rescued life do not withhold,

Thus the words and actions of the wise regard,

Every little service tenfold they reward,

But the truly noble know all men as one,

And return with gladness good for evil done.

"Says your link is broken. QQ I'd like to hear about Park's new vamp flick. Oldboy was awesome, and I still haven't watched sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (the first in the vengeance trilogy, Oldboy being 2nd) or Lady Vengeance, the third installment. Regardless I give Mr. Park props for his ability to keep dialogue sparse while providing all of the necessary elements to engage the viewer and push the story inexorably onwards (even when the audience might not want to see what happens next). Re:Guidelines and Suggestions

"Great idea Emery! Too bad we weren't doing this back when I actually worked on Spout. Even so this would be a great way for me to buckle down and watch some worthwhile films instead of the usual crap I whore out my mind to. It's like a book club, but with movies! I would like to suggest a Wes Anderson Marathon where we watch all five (or is it six?) films directed by Wes Anderson and discuss them. I would also really like to do some Hitchcock because I only ever seen like one Hitchcock film, and some Akira Kurosawa because, again, I've only ever watched a few of his films. I'm not sure who are some great french directors, but it would be cool to do that. We could also go for some films that defined new genres or w/e. I'm not much of an expert on that stuff, but I know a bit. Well can't wait to start this out. Peace, Ryan " [More]

"I can't remember these kinds of things to save my life. Imagine if you did have to remember these kinds of things to save your own life. Now there's a reality show we haven't seen yet. heheh uhh how about Bruce Almighty? I think he plays a news reporter who is down on his luck until God loans Bruce God's power. There's also Mrs. Doubtfire, where Robin Williams has that television show, and he ends up using the character he created to deceive his wife on the show in the end of the film. Well, there are always televisions in films, but I just can't seem to think of ones that haven't been mentioned already where television is the main focus. Well, good night and good luck. "Great post leeroy. I never gave much thought to the relationship of artistic style between some of the films you mentioned. I haven't seen the Big Heat yet, but that one is definitely on my list of things to watch, eventually. =) I wonder if any of Christopher Nolan's work, such as the Prestige would fit into this expressionistic category of films. Oh and I was also thinking of V for Vendetta. To me V is a great film, but I definitely think it could be part of the expressionism style of films. Or maybe I just don't understand what that means. =) " [More]

"I'd have to go with Megalopolis just because I enjoy the way that word rolls about in my mouth like a handful of jelly bellies. It also sounds like a scary giant monster from Japan. I envision screaming Japanese citizens being crushed by the giant Megalopolis. Terrifying indeed. " [More]

"Embrassingly I've only seen Seven Samurai, but I've heard that Rashomon and The Hidden Fortress are both quite good. My college's library has an asian film collection and I bet all of these films are in it. I should go check them out. :) Once I've seen more of these I'll cast my vote. :) " [More]

"This is a tough one. Many of these films are great in their own right, but when comparing them it becomes quite difficult to decide which I liked the best, partly because the distance in time between seeing Memento and Juno, for instance. I voted for Juno partly because I have the most vivid recollection of that film, and partly because I'm feeling somewhat sentimental, and Juno appealed to my sentimental side in some strange way I can't adequately describe. "I just watched The Darjeeling Limited (finally). Part 1 was great, I just love Wes Anderson's style. The rest of the film was more of a train setting, but I figured part 1 counts for this week's theme. I would also like to mention The Royal Tenenbaums simply because of Royal's involvement with that one hotel in the film. :) Other films that come to mind: Smokin' Aces Holiday Inn The Great Outdoors (I consider the setting to be a lodge. :) There's plenty more, but I don't like to include films I haven't seen, or that were already mentioned.
