Re: best star trek movie?
Kahn, hands down.
Best plot, characters, first movie to use CGI, highest opening weekend ever (at the time), etc.
Khan: "I've done far worse than kill you, Admiral. I've hurt you. And I wish to go on hurting you. I shall leave you as you left me, as you left her: marooned for all eternity in the center of a dead planet, buried alive. Buried alive."
Kirk: "KHAAAAAN! KHAAAAAAN!"

Definitely Kahn! "From hell's heart, I stab at thee." Depending on my mood, sometimes, The Undiscovered Country, ties for first. Both Nicholas Meyer movies rock.

Re: best star trek movie?
This is actually a really hard thing for me to decide on. Star Trek II revived the show and launched a series of movies that ultimately lead to The Next Gen crew... Star Trek IV was the first one I ever saw in the theatre, nostalgia-ville creeps up on me with this one... Star Trek VI was all in all brilliantly executed... First Contact returned us to the action side of Trek... But unlike most fans, my vote goes to Nemesis. Other than the B4 stuff, I felt this movie was finally what the TNG cast movies needed. Their own tale...the continuation of their lives...the Romulans as bad guys again!...and Picard being a cold tactician. I feel since this is, for the most part, the last Trek movie that will be made, they went out in style.

Re: best star trek movie?
strangeframe:sometimes moments the films plain make you embarassed (Search for Spock - the kid Spock growing up then stopping at the perfect age, ugh).
Hey you are right that was pretty weird and rediculous. I thought the whole thing was kind of rediculous though. But then again I thought all the movies up to this point were rediculous as well. So was the original TV show as well. My memories of the later shows like Deep Space Nine was they weren't as goofy. But then again it's sci-fi so you are bound to come across some goofy stuff.

Re: best star trek movie?
I've been a Star Trek fan since I was 5 years old when I would watch the reruns of the original series on TV with my father. Ever since then I've been hooked. When TNG came on the air, I was in heaven. Each Trek movie has its good qualities as well as its flaws. It's really hard for me to pin down just one favorite but some stick out in my mind more than others. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Absolute perfection. Montalban was delicously over the top as Khan. You couldn't help but identify with Khan a little bit. After all, what he and his people endured was cruel to say the least. His thirst for vengeance was very palpable indeed. Our beloved crew was in top form. The film had elements of action and drama which were expertly mixed together. The relationship between Kirk and Spock was beautifully portrayed and the important message of self sacrifice left a lasting impression. The musical score was a rousing one as well. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country What a fitting send-off for the original crew. What an interesting story of a proud warrior race undone by its own ill-fated policies. What an intense struggle involved in choosing to save the Klingons or letting them perish. The look of betrayal on Kirk's face when he is confronted by Spock's strange proposition, the awkwardness of the state dinner on board the Enterprise and the ensuing disaster. The politics of the Federation and the Klingon empire were beautifully interwoven. A bird's eye view of Rura Pente and the Klingon High Council were very eye opening indeed. While the 'speech' at the end was a bit much, it was still a wonderful movie. Star Trek First Contact What a treat to see the history behind the creation of warp drive and to realize that the great Zefram Cochran was just a regular guy with a lot of character flaws who still changed history for the better in spite of himself. The opening scene of the film was a great portrayal of the PTSD suffered by Picard during his captivity with the Borg. The analogy of Moby Dick with Picard's need for a sense of closure couldn't have been more accurate. To see a captain become so consumed with rage that he ignored the needs of his crew was riveting. Data's own struggle with wanting to become more human was explored even further when he freely admitted that he was tempted by the Borg Queen's offer to be by her side. The Borg Queen herself is one of the best villains of the Star Trek universe. She's a powerful woman who is as intimidating as she is beautiful. Alice Krige was mesmerizing in this role. She brought a lot of femininity to a character that was more machine than human. Star Trek Nemesis A lot of negative review have followed this film. However, I thought it was a refreshing departure from the Borg and the Klingons as villains. The story delved into the conflict between the Romulans and the outcast Remans. Shin Zon was a tragic figure, a man who had been created and then discarded like an unwanted orphan. In reaching out to Picard, he was looking for a father as well as an ally. It is unfortunate that he found neither. It is still very understandable why he chose to fight. His dream of restoring rights to the Remans was a noble one. Too bad that it soon became overshadowed by his own megalomania. On a lighter note, it was a joy to finally see the marriage of Riker to Troi. Data's endeavors to become more human ended in such a beautiful way. In sacrificing himself to save the lives of his crewmates, he attained that which he had searched so long for.

Re:Re: best star trek movie?
The first Star Trek film is incredibly dull. I tried watching the re-edited edition out on DVD, because many people have told me it's a much better movie, but I didn't see it. It still bored me to tears. Khan is, in a word, awesome. Sorry to disagree with you Risselada, and really I can't argue if you didnt like it, but its just excellent. Tieing into the continuity from the show(something that rarely happened, honestly), the whole idea of the eugenics war was pretty cool. And the conflict between Kirk and Khan was very literary, Shakesperean, almost, which fits with Roddenberry's original vision. Not only did Kirk have a nemesis, but Shatner had someone who's scenery chewing rivaled his own. My favorite, however, is VI, which as someone else pointed out is another Nicolas Meyer film. Everything about that movie seems perfect to me, the cold war associations, the tragedy of the doomed and progressive Klingons, the murder mystery on the Enterprise as Kirk and McCoy fend for themselves on a prison planet. At times tense, funny, politically relevant, fantastic and realistic. The perfect mix of what I like about Star Trek. That said, I do think Nemesis was an awesome film. It was the first REALLY good TNG movie(first contact was fun, but nothing mindblowing, the others were horrible). It does lose a few points for almost being a remake of Khan, complete with Data sacrificing himself at the end like Spock in Khan. Hell, they even had the replacement Data, which set the stage for a resurrection just like Spock in part three.
