Introduce Yourself - a place to say Hi and make friends

Hey, I thought maybe we should all introduce ourselves so we know who we are talking with in this group. Just give us a few sentence intro on yourself and tell us your favorite sci fi movie or franchise. I will start:

hi, I'm Christi, I live in Grand Rapids, MI where I work for a website and spend my days talking with people about movies. It's fun. I have a twin brother who works here too, Ryan. He is tons of fun, maybe you will see him around. My favorite Sci fi movie is Evolution. It's fun sci fi, a nice blend with comedy, which is my other favorite genre. I enjoy rasinettes and sour patch kids while I watch movies. I also love drinking Frozen pepsi and popcorn. mmmm. Did I mention I love food? haha, anyway, now it's your turn.

My name is Brian.  Some people call me Rizzo.  I'm originally from the Grand Rapids area, but have been living in Chicago for over four years now (holy cow, has it been that long?!  I guess it has).  I have too many favorite sci-fi movies to almost name here.  I might just have to go with 2001: A Space Odyssey as the classice straight up sci-fi movie.  Although Gattaca and Cube are also some of my favorite favorite movies that are pretty straight up sci-fi too.  And as for what I eat while watching movies?  Mostly cheese.  Lots and lots of cheese.  Brie or Wisconsin cheese curds being some of my favorite options.

Introduce Yourself: The short of it.

My name is Ryan. I live in the Grand Rapids as well, and may or may not be that twin brother Christi spoke of....

My interest in sci-fi may have spawned from Flight of the Navigator, which came out when I was three. Of course the Star Wars trilogy fueled the fire. I think Frank Herbert's Dune is probably my favorite science fiction story.

It looks as there a new Dune is in production for 2010.

I enjoy eating avocadoes, oranges, apples, and rice crackers while I watch movies. Popcorn is good too.

Hi everybody, my name is Steffi

I come from Germany and I love to watch good movies. In my mind the best science fictions movies are Star Trek TNG like The first Contact or Alien. I'am exited of the new Star Trek movie who will come out 2009.

Hello!  My name is Mark.  I'm from Philadelphia, PA (currently living in the suburbs) and also work for a website.  That tends to keep me pretty busy, but in my spare time I like to watch ridiculous amounts of movies and also read some books.  I like to talk movies too, though I don't have a ton of folks to talk to:( Hence coming to sites like this...

Anyway, my interest in SF started primarily in books.  Sure, I'd seen some SF style movies (The Terminator comes to mind),  but books are what really inspired me.  In particular, I discovered Asimov when I was 14 or so and read something on the order of 20 of his books within a year.  I moved on to some other classics (Clarke, Heinlein, etc...) and still devour SF books to this day.  Neal Stephenson is my favorite author (just finished his latest, Anathem, and loved it!) and my favorite SF movies are too many to list:p

Adaptations of my favorite books can be... rough... but I still  love SF movies (and TV).  I have some ideas for posts but for now, just wanted to introduce myself:)

Hey Steffi, Welcome to the Sci Fi group. I am a TNG fan as well. Is there any German sci fi that you are into? Just curious. Let me know if you have any questions about the group or about Spout.

Cheers,

Christi

Hey Mark, Welcome to the sci fi group. You're from Philly eh? I'm from about 3 hours west of there, good old York, PA. What kind of work do you do for the website?

Let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything on Spout.

Cheers,

Christi

"You all know me.   You know how I make a livin'.   I'll catch this bird for you but it isn't going to be pleasant!  Bad fish!   Swallow you whole!    A little shakin', a little tenderizin' and down you go ...   " ...   Sorry, wrong movie....

My name is Greg but my close friends and family have called me GOR for many years.   That has been my nickname since my early childhood.   I added the "doctor" part myself when I realized I was so good at playing a Doctor in the bedroom...   Plus I have always been the "mad scientist" type...   Is  Frankenstein (1931) a Sci-Fi movie?   I think it is.   I have seen every single episode of the TV series  Star Trek  more than once and all of the movies as well.   I also watched TNG and DS9 and Voyager and I enjoyed them all.   I have seen ALL of the  Star Wars  movies as well as the  Alien  series and enough of the old '50's-'60's sci-fi to make your head spin...

Yeah, I would say that I am a sci-fi fan...

I forgot to add that  2001: A Space Oddysey  and  2010  are among my favorite movies!   And, yeah, in the "Star Trek" vs "Star Wars" debate,  "Trek" wins hands down...

I almost forgot...   My favorite foods while watching movies are Tombstone Pizzas or Chili-Cheese Dogs or smothered burritos...   accompanied by some good beer and whiskey...
