missing a film

"The Incredible..." or "The amazing doctor..."arghh...was that even it?

So, I have this incredibly fond memory of being about 4 or 5 (1973 or 1974) and living in Indianapolis, IN. My parents used to watch this TV channel that had some great (and not so great) sci-fi films on it on a regular basis. I think I knew what night they came on, because I would always make sure not to fall asleep that night and then sneak downstairs to watch TV, huddled hidden in the shadows.

On one particular night I think I coughed or sneezed and gave away my location. To my surprise, my folks invited me to watch what was on that night...and I have been thinking about this film ever since. This is what I remember:

• probably came out in the 50's or 60's
• had to do with a family or group of people taking a spaceship trip to visit another planet
• on the planet they met the hospitality of a scientist or doctor?
• this person had many robot helpers...
• ...but we find out that the robots are actually manned by aliens (or would the robots have been aliened?)
• i seem to remember very bright vivid colors, which is why I'm thinking early technicolor
• i think the title was "The Incredible..." or "The Amazing..." something...but this could be wrong too
  

That's all I remember. Might not have even been  movie, could have been a TV show too. But that's what I have.

Can anyone help me with this?

Nope, I don't think that was it. If I recall properly, their alien host was less confrontational than the trailer (how cool was it that Spout actually had the trailer!) seemed to indicated.

By the way, I should mention that the aliens inside the robots were, perhaps, reptilian like and that the robots were maybe an early R2D2 shape...like a trash can.

I don't remember Robbie the Robot being an alien and it seems too obvious, but it's not Forbidden Planet either, is it?

That and This Island Earth are the only sci fi of that period that I remember with a plot of a group visiting another olanet and meeting a doctor with robot/alien helpers. I'm stumped.
