Missing on Spout's Films Listing

I cannot remember which group and on which threads we should report Films that are not listed in Spout's Film Data Base;

but here is one:

( Street of Love and Hope ); Ai to kibo no Machi (1959); Nagisa Oshima;

it is a great one...

yes that is right, Nagisa Oshima, of In the Realm of the Senses and ( Boy ); Shonen

Unless it was mysteriously added since you made this post, I'm not sure why you were unable to locat this movie.  I typed it in the search exactly the way you typed it here, and it came up for me.

Ha!

Spout's Rapid Response Team at work I suspect...

It was not on the list of Oshima's films this morning ( whatever time that was ) when I posted the thread. ( by the way, if you have not seen Sonen (Boy), you should; although, I suspect, your heart will be broken after seeing it...)

The Testament of Dr. Mabuse:

There are 2 versions, a French Language and the German Version, in addition there is a butchered up American version called The Last Will of Dr. Mabuse cut up from the French Language version and put together after the end of WWII with lots of references to fascism.

The 2 Disc Criterion Edition has both the German and the French along with a special feature comparing the 2 and some information about and cuts from the American version. I don't see a break down of the versions here, but then there are few specific references to the American version available on the net.

Alix Lambert's: The Mark of Cain (2007)

Not that great, but worth a look for both the tatoos, their evolution, meaning, and today, it seems meaninglessness in the Russian Prison System.

Here is a bit from NetFlix ( makes the film sound much more grim than it is, the interviews with the various inmates, male and female, are great ):

'Exploring the violent world inside Russia's brutal prison system, filmmaker Alix Lambert's intensely gritty documentary examines how tattoos play a role in marking the status of the most hard-core prisoners. With jails so overcrowded that inmates must decide who will stand while others sleep, a well-defined hierarchy has developed where rank is determined by details of crimes committed and amount of time served.'

This is probably it

IMDB says it was released in 2000, but maybe it just came out on DVD

It sounds fascinating!  Thanks for brining it to my attention.  It goes on my queue!

Rizzo,

I do not know how you do it, but you consistently find the films on Spout, that do not show up for me. I wonder if it is because I am using Google Chrome browser??? Thanks so much good sir!

By the way, I found it on Netflix, and it is not as good as I hoped it would be, although, it is well worth a look. I believe it was mentioned in the special features on the Eastern Promises disk, a book was mentioned too, which is on Amazon ( the title escapes me at the moment ).

What I found extremely interesting, is that the various symbols have meaning and a history and that originally a person had to 'earn' the tattoo, it was part of the 'cred', now, at least the film brought out, specific, very status worthy tattoos are simply purchased. Also interesting, but too little time spent on them, the Womens' tattoos.

Please see it and let me know what you think.

I have to do some research on the Yakuza tattoos.

thanks again for finding it for me.

You can just buy the tattoos now instead of earning them?  How cheap!

I'm sure interested in those Yakuza tattoos too!  That would make a good doc, although I wonder how secretive they would be about them.  I don't know too much about them, but I've seen some show up in films before.  MASSIVE back tattoos!

Is this a list of films you cannot find in the Spout database?
