The European Independent Film Festival

14th to 16th March 2008

Bibliothèque Nationale de Francois Mitterrand

Paris, France

The European Independent Film Festival (ÉCU) is at the forefront of the discovery, promotion and projection of the very best independent filmmaking talent from around the World.

There are many cinematic gems that don’t make it to the ‘Hollywood-swamped’ theaters because they lack financial support. We find these independent filmmakers and give them the opportunity to screen their fresh, innovative and free spirited films in front of large international audiences.

ÉCU is a particularly rewarding experience for the several hundred independent filmmakers from around the World who come to the event. They have the opportunity to attend an array of editing, writing and acting workshops, participate in discussion panels with the directors and get hands on experience with the latest filmmaking technology. Filmmakers also have the chance to network with the agents, talent scouts, production company representatives, distributors and established producers who attend The ÉCU Film Festival searching for new projects and raw talent.

ÉCU stands out from the crowded film festival arena as it is the only independent film festival that is truly pan-European and this uniqueness attracts thousands of submissions as filmmakers compete for the title of Europe’s Best Independent Film. The films are judged by a prestigious jury of respected filmmakers and industry experts.

Many of the award winning filmmakers from previous editions of ÉCU have since gone onto achieve great success. In fact, several producers and directors have found the much-needed support to push their careers forward and find funding for new projects as a direct result of their participation at ÉCU.

In association with AVID, SCRIPTSHARK, FUJIFILM, BEBO, FINAL DRAFT, AZUREUS, MYSPACE and SPOUT, the European Independent Film Festival 2008 will present approximately one hundred films, in eleven categories from all over the World. In the two grand auditoriums at the Bibliotheque Nationale de Francois Mitterrand in Paris, the audience will be treated to this vast array of creative and truly inspiring independent films which they would not have the opportunity to see without the existence ÉCU.

ÉCU has developed a formidable reputation as the discoverer of the freshest cinematic talent in the world. As one member of the press wrote: “At last, Europe has an answer to Sundance.”
