Worst Dance Film Ever- Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo?
I recently was given Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo by a friend (on DVD no less--its a wonder whats available on DVD now...) and I have to say, it definitely holds its own in the Worst Movie Ever category. As far as dance films go, I'd almost wager this is #1 since it sort of set a precedent for the genre, but I'm curious to know what other crappy ones are out there?
Oh and definitely take the time to watch the clip below. It sums up the whole film pretty well.

Wow, this looks like something that was meant to be fun and harmless, but is actually the opposite...like a stuffed animal that gets recalled because its dye is shriveling kids' hands into little monkey paws.

Wait--did that actually happen? Cause thats almost kinda cool. That aside though, I'm starting to question if a good film involving dancing has ever been made?

Oh c'mon people! I was expecting a lot of chatter about terrible dance movies. Is it too broad a topic? Too easy since pretty much every dance film has been awful?

I contend that Step Up 2 the Streets (2008) is probably one of the worst/best dance movies ever made.
Mostly because it is a disney enterprise making it largely unbelievable for a variety of reasons. The acting is terrible. The whole culture gets lost in the "child-friendly" atmosphere of a disney film. It belongs in my list of "Films never to watch under any circumstances". (Although I did enjoy the breakdancing, the only redeeming aspect of the film.)

While I'm at it, whats up with the whole priveledged suburban girl dancer is lured into the exciting world of underground urban break dancing cliche? I think it might be one of the most prevalent, overworked and crappiest stories in Hollywood. The first example I've personally seen was Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo, but I wouldn't be surprised if it existed before then. Or maybe we can blame the Breakin' series for establishing this stupid cultural cliche?

I say The Forbidden Dance because it was a cheap, terrible film made to capitalize on the craze started by Dirty Dancing. It is super ridiculous. It involves a Amazon princess who tries to get on TV to save her rain forest from an evil company. Of course, this leads to her meeting a rich guy who gets them into a lambada competition on television. And the dancing was about as exciting as seeing Cloris Leachman on Dancing With the Stars. At least Sig Haig played a witch doctor. Maybe this film justifies Captain Spaulding's reign of terror

...ummm. Did you say witch doctor? I can only imagine just how bizarre the plot actually is if it involves a witch doctor.

From what I've seen You Got Served received some of the most extensive mocking and criticism for a dance movie when it came out. I think there was a South Park episode mocking it. It seemed like people were calling it the worst movie of the year when it came out. I almost remember it being #1 on the IMDB bottom 250 list for a while.

I completely forgot about that one. Robot Chicken even mocked it witih their Optimus Prime vs. Voltron dance off. Still, I think kudos must go to the Breakin series for being the grandfather of the genre (as far as I can tell).
