Re:Independence Day Faces Impeachment For Being Lackluster
This is one of the worst movies ever made. Not only is all the acting god awful, the plot is so laughable and the writing and delivery make me want to puke in my pants. Jeff Goldbloom is still obnoxious and not funny, and Will Smith is a scientoligist and Tom Cruise's Friend. I want Bill Pullman's speech from that film read at my funeral, so that everybody who hears it will see my dead body and think of that fecal matter filled film.

Re:Independence Day Faces Impeachment For Being Lackluster
I think we're kind of beating a dead horse here, but I'll come to its defense. I don't think Independence Day ever aspired to be anything more than simply entertaining, like almost any other Will Smith movie. I don't really think plausibility is a consideration when you are making a film based on a comic book about a super secret government agency that not only fights aliens, but employs them as well.
Its a far-reaching plot, and yes, it fits into the formulaic summer blockbuster category, but I managed to laugh a few times, thought the storyline was interesting, and managed to stay entertained for an hour and a half. Is it a great film? Certainly not. Is it an entertaining movie? I submit that yes--if you can detach yourself from the confines of reality long enough to watch it--that it is in fact a pretty solid film.
