Manos: The Hands of Fate
So a couple weekends ago I saw Manos: The Hands of Fate MST3K episode.
This film often vies for the title of the worst movie of all time, and I have to say it makes a pretty great case for itself.
I watched it at porcupine's house. SkyPilot was there too. He was the one who showed it to us actually. I think everyone there was stunned at how bad it actually was.
I heard that watching this movie without the MST3K commentary can put you in a strange state of mind. Joel and the bots didn't even need to make jokes most of the time. They just needed to say something like "WOW" and everyone watching felt the same way.

Re:Manos: The Hands of Fate
Added to my must watch list! I'm totally down for watching anything that MST3k can't handle.
Have you seen the MST3k episode of "Riding with Death?" I found it on Google video the other day and watched the complete episode... my girlfriend and I were almost in tears at the hilarious mid-seventies campy-oil-crisis-terrorist-plot... featuring none other than Ben Murphy.

Re:Manos: The Hands of Fate
So... I *attempted* to watch Manos: the Hands of Fate recently. Wow. The film was so ridiculous, contradicted itself so many times and was so terribly assembled that I could scarce even watch it. I got about 3/4 of the way through and had to turn it off--it just stopped making sense essentially. Honestly, I would have no hesitation submitting Manos as the worst film ever created!

Did you try to watch it with or without MST3K commentary? I'm not sure if I could handle it without! Or without other people around to share my disbelief.

Re:Manos: The Hands of Fate
We actually watched the MSTk version online... I couldn't believe the sheer awfulness. It was funny how the robots just kept commenting "Ladies and gentlemen... Manos: the Hands of Fate"... nothing else was necessary, the sheer awfulness spoke for itself.

Well there wasn't much they could really comment on at all. After the first little scene, literally nothing happens for the next ten minutes. Just scenerey going by. We read later that apparently the directed had intended on putting opening credits in over all of that scenery, but he basically just ended up forgetting to do that.

Re:Manos: The Hands of Fate
I think he also forgot to write a script, hire a director of photography, create a sensible storyline... :-) I was cracking up during the whole scenery shots, I can't remember what the bots said, but it was absolutely hilarious. I just liked how because it was getting close to dark, the family was unable to leave the creepy lodge. Because cars don't work after dark, you know...
