12 Monkeys

12 monkeys was a smoke screen that dealt with very basic principles of time travel. It was sci-fi, not much more.

I have not seen La Jetee... I'll have to check it out if I can find it. The newer version made me feel dumb. I just never understood the reveal at the end. I was expecting it; in the end it turned out to be like almost any other time-travel movie to me. The red herring smokescreen at the beginning just pissed me off when it ultimately had little or nothing to do with what was happening.

I love mood and tone, and it was heavy with that. It felt like a futile experience. I feel for that movie like Monica's Italian boyfriend did for her on Friends. "a beautiful but empty vase."

First off I am looking forward to checking out La jetée!

Now back to our film at hand. 12 Monkeys is nothing astonishing, but some of the character development is interesting. The movie comes across as something intellectually challenging, but the ending does leave one questioning the point of producing such a movie. Now the question is would this movie actually improve with a more intriguing ending?

Now I am curious to see if anyone felt Brad Pitt was over-acting in this movie. It has been awhile since I have watched this movie, but if I remember he delivered a fairly descent performance, no? Really the only element of the movie I remember well is Brad Pitt.
