Games that should be movies and High School Horror flicks

Two lists are being created for SpoutBlog this week (10/20/08):

  1. Video Games That Should Be Movies
  2. High School Horror Stories (think teen movies and horror movies getting it on in the back of dad's sedan)

Got any top 5's for those two categories?

Video games that should be movies.

Rags to Riches - an old Commodore 64 game.  Basically it would be an every day story of a hobo on his rise to riches.  Less sensational but more amusing than what you'd expect.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game was ten times more amusing than any of the new Star Wars movies.  That should have been the basis for the new trilogy instead.  Had much more amusing characters.

Any of the old Lucas Arts adventure games would have made fantastic movies too.  They basically are completely narrative based, so it's no surprise.  I really wish they'd make a Maniac Mansion movie!!!  I know there was a TV show, but I never saw it.  I heard it was bad.

Video Games

1.) Contra - Rambo meets Alien. Could be pretty fun.

2.) Castevania - Killing Dracula. As long as Uwe Boll doesn't direct could be interesting.

3.) Kid Icarus - Kid with wings fighting ancient Greek monsters.

4.) Metroid - Badass chick pummeling aliens with an assortment of weapons.

5.) Legend of Zelda - The Sword in the Stone / Legend / Lord of the Rings.

I know I watched the Maniac Mansion show, but I can't remember a thing about it.

You're right about those LucasArts games though. How about Full Throttle,  a murder mystery/adventure with a badass biker as the main character!

I had a blast with the LucasArts series of Monkey Island games. "I am Guybrush Threepwood...and I want to become a pirate!" The movie would be like Pirates of the Caribbean mixed with Princess Bride. In fact, twenty years  ago Cary Elwes would've been perfect as Guybrush, but who would play him today? Hmm, what about Charlie Cox, the young guy in Stardust? (Which for my money is better than Princess Bride).

Merc, you're describing Aliens!

I'm half kidding. A Contra movie could be fun! I'd like to see Nathan Fillion (Firefly) and... maybe Ryan Reynolds (Blade III)?

I'd like to see a movie made from Pong. Oh wait, they already did that with Forrest Gump.

Yeah Full Throttle was one of the best too.  And there was news they were developing a sequel a few years ago too, and then it full through.  I was so disappointed.

The Monkey Island games are absolute wonderful lunacy too.

There another one called The Dig that was not really goofy like the other ones.  It was a sci-fi type thing that had Steven Spielberg and Orson Scott Card involved.  I remember enjoying that one too.

1. Classic Sega oddity Toe Jam & Earl helmed by Spike Lee.

2. John Waters directs Leisure Suit Larry.

3. Live action Sonic The Hedgehog starring Russell Brand in the title role.

4. TuPacman: Tupac comes back from the dead to consume all that's fake about the world of hiphop. That's a lot of food.

5. Max Payne II: Quentin Tarantino stops that annoying baby from wailing once and for all.

As far as video games that should be movies, I wanna see Sony's God of War game turned into a movie and Vin Diesel should play Kratos.

Whoa, Leisure Suit Larry! I forgot all about that game. Remember how the game made you prove you were 18+ by giving you a pop culture quiz?
