Peter Watkins
Peter Watkins isn't technically a documentary filmmaker. I suppose it's debatable, but there is a great article by Michael Atkinson on Good magazine's site today. I've seen both Culloden and Punishment Park, both of which are aggressively political and provocative to the extreme. The article provides an excellent overview of his travails as a filmmaker.
