Casting ideas for the optioned, pre-productioned, rumored and otherwise purgatory-ed films of the (possible) future. Ideas for who should play Captain America in the (inevitable) adaptation? Let'd hear it fanboy! Post-David Craig Bond idea? Sure. Wanna start an argument? Hells yeah!

Remake Star Warses

GradysGhost gave me an idea. What if George Lucas had one too many ding dongs one night and greenlit a remake of the original trilogy? Who, oh who, would they use?

Re: Remake Star Warses

This is a real treat.  To be both the inspiration for a thread and the first responder!

First let me say that George Lucas would never have the bad sense to remake his own movies because they could only be turned into awful badness.  I sometimes get the feeling that Revenge of the Sith was only an obligatory thing.  Maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Second, my wife said that if it were to be remade, the cast would be a bunch of nobodies to be true to the essence of the original Holy Trinity.

Finally, here's my basic "callback" list.

The Main Cast

 - Luke Skywalker: played by Tobey Maguire.  No one else could capture the stupid innocence that Mark Hamill put out so well.

 - Princess Leia: Natalie Portman?  This is really hard.

 - Han Solo: Peter Saarsgard.

 - Darth Vader (voice): James Earl Jones.  Why change a good thing when he doesn't have to show his face?

The Rest of the Crew

 - Lando Calrissi: Omar Epps

 - Admiral Ackbar: That dude who played Jar-Jar.  Just for giggles.

It will be remade some day.  No doubt.  Hopefully not before I'm dead though.  Hopefully the remake of Casablanca can hold off until I kick the bucket too.

Under discussion:

Casablanca  (1943)

I hate Tobey MacGuire but agree with you: that stupid innocence is essential. Without that doe-eyed "Who me?" it's all lost. I think, however, your original statement was a better one: Norton. Look at Death to Smoochy and tell me he couldn't played doe-eyed. Then look at American History X and tell me he couldn't play the bad ass that walked so brazenly into Jabba's palace.

And the main reason I didn't offer any of my own ideas was a completely lack of them. The original trilogy is perfect the way it is and re-casting in my head is near-impossible.

Unfortunately I don't know if we'll be that lucky with Casablanca. It seems like just the sort of thing someone will try and justify. Case-in-point: they're supposedly remaking Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Now this is all rumor mind you but it doesn't help my new ulcer any.
