Fixing Mistakes: Hulk & Spider-Man 3

So The Hulk sucked. Everyone knows it (aside from my douchebag brother apparently). Even the studio knows it - they're now making The Incredible Hulk, pretending The Hulk never happened. Beautiful. Replace Eric Bana with Edward Norton - that'll help. Liv Tyler as Betty - good. Tim Roth as The Abomination? Brilliant!!

So let's all pretend that after the travesty of Spider-Man 3 they decide to start over.

Maybe they introduce the Ben Reilly story (it turns out Parker is a clone of Reilly - or possibly vice versa, it's never properly revealed). Reilly becomes the Scarlet Spider for a time and eventually takes over as Spider-Man when Parker walks away from it all with Mary Jane on his arm (thus eliminating both MacGuire and Dunst in one fell swoop). That would introduce Miles Warren/The Jackal (the one who cloned Pete).

Now we cast The Scarlet Spider

Ben Reilly / The Scarlet Spider: Jake Gyllenhaal Scarlet Spider

Prof. Miles Warren / The Jackal: Donald Sutherland

Gwen Stacy: Elizabeth Banks

There would have to be another villain to go along with The Jackal so I'd say The Lizard since he's already sort of appeared in the last two films.

Dr. Connors / The Lizard: I am tempted to go with Sam Raimi's original choice of Bruce Campbell but I'll go ahead and stick with Dylan Baker because he did a fine job and he'd lend a bit of continuity to the whole thing since I've recast Gwen Stacy.

I also think that following Venom's "death" other symbiotes could pop up, pissed off and thus we could get to the Maximum Carnage storyline. That would net us not only Carnge but Scream, Agony, Lasher, Riot & Phage or possibly Toxin and/or Hybrid as the anti-hero/allies of Spider-Man. But I think I'm giving us too much here...

Your cast is great, esp Donald Sutherland, but I'd rather see an organic web shooters retcon than the return of Reilly-Spider. Ben Reilly the clone was good comics. Ben Reilly the one true Spidey...the shark had jumped, my friend. The shark had jumped.

The shark had indeed jumped and I'm sure many a critic would say as much to our movie but at least it wouldn't be Spider-Man 4: Electric Boogaloo.

Yeah, I wish Raimi would just make a musical a la Miike and get it out of his system.

HA! Loved Happiness of the Katakuris. If Raimi ever gives us Bruce Campbell prancing around in Evil Dead: The Musical I'll take back 30% of the bad things I've said about him.
