A Clockwork Orange remake

If they ever have the incredibly bad idea of remaking A Clockwork Orange, I hope at least they'd have the good sense to cast Cillian Murphy as little Alex...

Then again, if they did remake this film, good sense would be the last thing you'd expect, so we'd probably get someone like...

Who the heck is that second guy???

When I was in highschool, some friends of mine recast A Clockwork Orange the movie with people that they knew.  They cast me as the guy who makes Alex smell his shoe in that live demonstration of his supposed rehabilitation.

That's Sanjaya Malakar, contestant on American Idol, and why is it everyone's HS friends were cooler than mine?!

I thought it might be one of those American Idol hooligans.

Don't worry about it.  All that matters is if your friends are cool NOW!

Re: A Clockwork Orange remake

Cillian Murphy as Alex would at least make the remake interesting.

I would find it interesting if Malcolm McDowell were cast in Aubrey Morris' shoes (Mr. Deltoid).

If the remake were more of a widespread dystopian future we'd also be able to cast outside of the British Isles. Someone like Ryan Gosling (or Zachary Quinto) as the droog that turns on Alex?

And I realize it would be changing the age of the character but possibly Christopher Eccleston as Mr. Alexander.

I'm drawing a blank for Dim but that's probably because I'm trying to cast a heavier set guy in the role. Forgive me but possibly  Anthony Anderson? He was good in The Departed & The Shield but Scary Movie 4, Agent Cody Banks 2 & King's Ransom make me second guess myself. You know what, forget that one.

A stroke of genius.

For Dim, what about Nick Frost? You know, Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz guy. From what I've seen he can channel a mean inner gorilla.

Nick Frost is perfect! I just watched Kinky Boots and he played serious pretty well. He's in.

addendum 5/21/07: I was telling my wife about this thread and before I even finished my sentence concerning Dim she said "What about Nick Frost? He was good in Kinky Boots & Hot Fuzz." HA! Apparently I'm the Dim one here for not thinking of him myself.

Re:A Clockwork Orange remake

hello

just so you know i accidently stumbled upon this website through google and couldnt help but read this little group discussion

First of all,A CLOCKWORK ORANGE REMAKE SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!!there are certain movies that shouldnt be touched and this is most definately one of them.as for the suggestion that malcolm mcdowell plays mr deltoid is just ludicrous. mr mcdowell would never be in remake because it was after all one his founding movies and it would cheapen his legacy as the original purveyor of ultraviolence.

second of all there isnt a director on this earth that could do this movie justice, and no i dont want rob zombie getting his hands on this either.im a fan of rob zombies movies, even his halloween remake but he shouldnt go near this movie with a barge pole!

in conclusion ill gladly tear apart any producer that tries to money anywhere this idea. the legacy of a clockwork orange must be maintained!!

I couldn't agree more!  There are some movies that were good enough around the first time that they don't need to be 'remade' or 'updated'.  Might want to check out a contetst we're running over in Worst Movie Ever.  We're currently seeing who can come up with the Worst Modern Re-Telling of a Classic.
