Spout Feature Feedback: Widgets and Exportable lists
We're in the process of adding more exportable widgets to Spout and even working towards opening a Spout API. Check out the Digital Swag page to see what we have so far. I'd love suggestions from this group on what else to add. So far, you can pull some of your lists into a blog or MySpace account...soon you will be able to pull most of your lists as well as stat info. Let me know what you think!

I actually have no idea what a widget is! Could you explain it? I wonder if I've been using them already but didn't know what they were called.

Technically, the type of widget I am talking about "is a portable chunk of code that can be installed and executed within any separate HTML-based web page by an end user without requiring additional compilation. They are akin to plugins or extensions in desktop applications." Wikipedia So, what does that mean? In layman's terms, a widget is basically a small piece of a site or application that can live elsewhere. Your SpoutBadge and Movie Lists are now widgets in that sense because we can give you a piece of code to allow them to show up on your blog, myspace page...about anywhere. Basically it is all about sharing your love for film anywhere you hang out online. Take a look on my personal blog to see the MovieList widget in action: www.appliedthinking.net (scroll down and look on the right side). Does that help? or corn-fuse the issue?

Re: Spout Feature Feedback: Widgets
Huh, I didn't realize all of these features could be incorporated elsewhere. It sounds great! Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I couldn't find any MovieList widget at your appliedthinking website. Could you tell me more specifically where to look? I like the potential of what is being described.

Its there...but kinda far down. Scroll down and you'll see the Spout logo on the right hand side on my blog.

Oh yes! I found out about that thing through the spout newsletter. I tried copying the code to my myspace page because it looked so cool, and I loved the idea. But then I sat the movies it picked for my "top rated" and it only showed a few and I don't even think most of them actually were my "top rated". Shouldn't it just scroll through everything you've listed 5 stars? Anyways I ended up removing it from my myspace page until it seems like it's working right.

I really would love this plugin for my blog, but this is a wordpress plugin, and I need a blogger widget. I have looked through spout, criticker and flixster but none have one like this.. If the site could add this minimalist widget (or one almost like this), I would very much like to join spout and not go anywhere else to rate my movies..
eagerly awaiting answer, or I'll have to try my luck at the other sites..
thank you

Re:Spout Feature Feedback: Widgets and Widgets
Unfortunately you're right that we don't currently have a Blogger widget-just Wordpress. I'm not sure how difficult it is to create one, and what future updates to the site have in store, but I'll definitely forward your suggestion on to our development team!
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the site even if you can't export your lists to your Blogger account! :-)
