Re:Technical Help

Risselada:

So one one of my most recent blog entries I describe how I have been doing a little movie watching project I constructed for myself and finished a long list of movies I've been watching for the past two years.  I got this comment by fellow Spout user joem18b

"congratulations! but if i go to your filmblog, it only lists the most recent. how do i get back to the beginning of it?"

I have no idea what to tell him becuase I've never been able to figure this out!  This is a navigation issue I've had with the Spout blog since it's inception.  I've mentioned this issue several times, but the navigation system on the blog has never been changed in the slightest from what I can tell for all the years it has been around.

Has there been any work done to it at all?  Are there any plans to?  Am I just totally missing how to do this?

Hey Rizzo,

Actually, when you click into a specific post on a person's blog there is a navigation tool on the right side of the page that allows you to browse the archives of a person's blog posts. It's a grey frame with a calendar and listing of Month/Year archives. It should have all of the posts the person has ever created. Let me know if you aren't seeing it.

Cheers,

Christi

I do have the calendar, but the problem this presents is that Spout is apparently only showing a certain number of posts made in a certain period of time.  For instance if you go to someone's blog and ask it to show you all the posts they made in the month of May, it will only show the last six entries, which is kind of annoying.  Of course it is possible to go and click on the specific days of the calendar and see just the posts made that day.  However, if by chance someone posted more than six entries in one day (it doesn't happen often, but there are some prolific people who have done it) then only the most recent six appear, thus there is no way at all to access any of the earlier posts made that day by the calendar.  Do you understand?  I've tried to explain the issue to people many times over the years, but it's always stayed that way.

Hi Rizzo,

Have you had an instance in your browsing or in your own blog where you haven't been able to access a post? At this point, I can see how you would want to have access to as much content as possible, but it really comes down to the fact that the page can only display so many posts in the format that is set up with the calendar browsing option. Plus, it's not technically broken, so I doubt there will be plans to redesign this area of the site. If you run into a situation where you are not able to access something that you would like to see, let me know, and I will try to find a solution for you.

Thanks,

Christi

If you do have a moment to look into it, here is an example

http://www.spout.com/blogs/moviebabe/archive/2007/07.aspx

According to the calendar for this blog she made 288 blog posts in July.  I am unable to see many of them.  It doesn't tell you how many were posted day by day, but there must have been more than six posted on some days for all of them to add up to 288.
