What is your favorite movie directed by John Hughes?
Please reference this thread for the rules of this group.
This poll has been posted by the request of laurabot who requeted a John Hughes poll. Maybe next week I'll post a poll about the movies he has written but not directed since there are a good slew of those as well.
Please vote only once in each poll.
Movies referenced in this poll: The Breakfast Club Curly Sue Ferris Bueller's Day Off Planes, Trains & Automobiles She's Having a Baby Sixteen Candles Uncle Buck Weird Science

I went with Sixteen Candles, i don't really have a super good reason. It was a toss up between that and The Breakfast Club.

RIP Mr. Hughes, ye who have cinematically formed the basis for much of my childhood and adolescence...very sad. I might resurrect the Forever Young group in his honor, when I think of a good way to address this topic.
I chose The Breakfast Club. That and Ferris Bueller strike me as the most re-watchable of all of those films, and it's one of my faves, but so many are good, including Bueller, and Sixteen Candles, and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Have I mentioned this is sad?

I went through a rather depressing year of high school in which I watched The Breakfast Club at least once a day.
I know it backwards and forwards. Every word. Every awkward gesture.
So yeah, I picked that one.

You know, I've never actually seen The Breakfast Club! I've seen small scenes here and there on TV, but not much of it. I guess I should see it, if not just for the cultural references.
I have this memory of being in grade school and going over to a friends house to watch Planes, Trains & Automobiles on VHS. We had to be sneaky about it I found out because it was rated R! I think it was the first R rated movie I ever saw!!!

Had to go with "Plantes, Trains, and Automobiles" myself. It's one of the few movies where the comedy and tragedy really do play incredibly well off of each other, and you end up loving both characters despite the fact that they should be insufferable.
"Ferris Bueller," of course, has to be a close second, just for the Charlie Sheen cameo alone.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles for me. But Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles are dear friends. Though I couldn't really relate to the lives these teenagers led, there are some things that never change -- such as the family interactions in Candles. :-D
P,T&A is the best of the bunch, I think, because of the mix of comedy and drama. Martin and Candy are perfect for their roles, and Martin's tantrum at the car rental desk is classically empathy enducing.
RIP JH - you'll be missed!

I have to be honest when I say I was never really alllll that into John Hughes' flicks. But I voted for Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Such an iconic film. Breakfast Club would go to number 2 for me. It's a solid film, although personally I find it a bit overhyped.
