Which of these film directors with the name Anderson is your favorite?

Please reference this thread for the rules of this group.

Again it's kind of an arbitrary comparison I know, but I still thought it was interesting how many Andersons there were as famous directors.  I know Roy Andersson has an extra "s" in it, but as far as I know it's pronounced the same.

Please vote only once in each poll.

Some of the movies from these directors:

Lindsay Anderson - This Sporting Life, If...., O Lucky Man!

Paul Thomas Anderson - Boogie Nights, Magnolia, There Will Be Blood

Paul W.S. Anderson - Event Horizon, Resident Evil, AVP: Alien vs. Predator

Wes Anderson - Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Roy Andersson - A Swedish Love Story, Songs from the Second Floor, You, the Living

P.T.A. all the way. Love every film he's made.

Still haven't seen Bottle Rocket and didn't care too much for Darjeeling Limited; but still like W. A.

Event Horizon was interesting and I need to see it again. I actually liked AVP which surprised me a lot. The final decision on P.W.S.A. is still out.

Haven't had a chance to see any L.A. or R.A. yet.

Oh man! Hard choice! Wes Anderson has the best track record as far as I'm concerned. I haven't seen enough of PTA's stuff to judge, but he's totally a contender. I would have voted for Lindsay Anderson if it hadn't been for "O Lucky Man." I adore "If..." with every fiber of my being, but the completely ridiculous "sequel" just about ruined it for me.

Although PTA is an incredible film-maker, and I love each and every movie he's made (but, alas, I have not seen Hard Eight/Sydney/his first movie), Wes Anderson has always hit home with me. Regardless of critical opinion on some of his films, I have adored everything he's made, and found the re-watchability factor with his movies to be better than most other idiosyncratic directors. So, my vote went, hands down, to Wes.

I haven't had a chance to see any of Lindsay Anderson's films, but I've been eyeing up If... for a while and have This Sporting Life in my Netflix queue.

Well, I went with PTA. Although I have enjoyed a larger quantity of Wes' films, Magnolia is one of my favorite movies of all time, ranking even above Royal Tenenbaums, which is one of my other favorite movies of all time. I liked this poll!

[I'll go with Wes. Not that I'm a devote. But Rushmore is one of the best movies. When you think of the mistakes that could have been made--who would have been better cast in those roles? Great sets and costumes-all those neutral colours. In short, the attetion to detail was impressive. And it served a greater end. Not only did Wes avoid tawdry criticisms about cross-age sex etc. but he produced an elevating movie.

Agree about Rushmore - love that film.  It may well be his best, though Royal Tenenbaums is pretty close.

Wes got my vote because I know more of his movies than any of the other Andersons'.  Magnolia was quite good, however...

Paul Thomas Anderson is my favorite director, so this was an easy choice.  There Will Be Blood is on my top films, and Magnolia and Boogie Nights are both high on my list.

I'd say Wes Anderson, until I saw a PTA movie was at the top. I still think Life Aquatic is his best, a lot of people feel Rushmore gets that nod.
