Pick a Pair

If you wanted to pair two movies (not sequels) together what movies would you watch together and why?

I'd pair The Bear  with Grizzly Man.

The Bear is a story of how an older grizzly  takes care of a young bear who las lost his mother and how they just want to get along and wouldn't bother people at all if it wasn't for the mean hunters who are after them. Werner Herzog takes documentary footage from a man who was a self taught expert on bears, before he was eaten by them, and turned it into Grizzly Man.

The other pairing I have would be F for Fake and The Hoax.

In F for Fake, Orson Welles interviews Clifford Irving, a journalist who spent a fair amount of time interviewing a famous art forger, who could never be convicted. The Hoax tells the story of Irving a few years later when he created forged Howard Hughes diaries and sold them for fun and profit.

What pairs do you have?

Woodstock followed by Gimme Shelter.

Watch as flower power wilts.

I'm trying to get myself in a different headspace than thinking about fun double features I would actually want to see, preferably at a drive-in.

Cube followed by Pi

These films both prove that math is evil.

I just wiki'd the box office number-ones for 2000, and it was like going through a depressing museum exhibit. I thought, "I don't want to live through that year again." Funny I didn't realize popular cinema was so s***ty at the time. Gladiator won Best Picture?

Gladiator is to cauliflauer what award-winners are to vegetables.

What were the only two ears of sweet corn in 2000? Billy Elliot and O Brother, Where Art Thou.

Re:Pick a Pair

I had to go one step further and do a triple feature: Nuns, Nuns, NUNS!

The Sound of Music

Nuns singing! Nuns laughing! Nuns thwarting Nazi's! Yay!

Black Narcissus

More realistic portrayal of good-hearted nuns mixed with some crazy ones.

Dark Habits

Tigers, lesbianism and heroin, Oh My!

Yeah I've never seen Billy Elliot, but I remember 2000 being over and thinking O Brother was about the only good thing worth seeing at all the whole year.

I did a search on movies I've seen and rated although it's kind of hard becuase some movies are listed with release dates of 2000, but that was just at some film festival.  Sometimes they don't hit the major market for nearly a year after the festival circuit.  For instance Mememto is listed as being released in 2000, but wasn't really released in most theatres until the middle of March in 2001.

If you are going that far, you might as well add Killer Nun to your list of drug addicted, sex starved sisters of mercy.

Re:Pick a Pair

If I picked 2 films to watch together i'd pick I, Robot, the Terminator (in that order).  It shows the steady progession of the rise of the machines, our advancing technology, and our incessant need  to ignore the red flags that tell us perhaps we should rethink the whole "smart machine" thing.

If i was going to watch another film to make it a trilogy  and round out the bundle it would be The Matrix ( of course).
