Rotten Tomatoes' Digest of 50 Best Animated Films
I don't know where else to start this particular discussion - I'm sure the Disney fan group would be appropriate, since Disney and Pixar dominate the list, but this is Rotten Tomatoes' compiled assemblage of the 50 highest ranked animated films on their site, which is a pretty good, balanced indicator, all told, between critical and popular reception. The list starts at the bottom with South Park's big screen offering and ends with...well, I'll just let you take a look-see. Sound off below on what you feel are the merits (or lack of) of the latest top something or other list! I'll check back later and offer my reactions then.

Re:Rotten Tomatoes' Digest of 50 Best Animated Films
Definitely an interesting list, but clearly favors the Disney/American films. Toy Story 2 as the best animated film of all time? C'mon. How can that compare with the deeper message and beautiful hand-drawn animation of Miyazaki's films? I'm not even an anime fan, but wow, what gorgeous films. I was pleased to see The Triplets of Belleville as well, but I would have liked to see that higher on the list. I feel that a nearly silent, hand drawn film is quite groundbreaking in our soundbyte big action society these days, and worthy of a top 20 position.

I haven't even seen the Anime films, but just focusing on the list from a Disney/Pixar perspective, I have beefs with particular placements. I'm a huge Pixar fan, and I would rank Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and Wall-E above Toy Story 2 in a heartbeat. Especially Wall-E, which, at least for the all-robot half, follows that silent-movie motif. Though I was glad to see that all of the Pixar films, with the exception of Cars, received rankings. As Cars is my least favorite, I'm ok with that.
And then, the world celebrates Snow White because it was the first Disney feature-length animated film to "break ground," but some of the formula followers are simply superior movies. I find Sleeping Beauty to be as breathtakingly beautiful as an animated film as any, evidenced by the renderings and work on Maleficent, and the visual effects of the faeries (and the changing dress).
Actually, I was looking at some of the entries, and they are not ranked in order of Rotten Tomatoes received. I mean, some films with lower rankings were ranked higher than ones with higher rankings than those films...um. yeah. So, it makes me wonder how the list was compiled in the end. These lists make for good discussions though.

Re:Rotten Tomatoes' Digest of 50 Best Animated Films
Yeah, like I said, it seems they started at 1940, which is just stupid. Honestly, it sounds like the assignment was more like 'Think of 50 Animated Films' rather than actually ranking the best animated films.

I recently watched The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the first feature length animated film. Sorry, but that list was time consuming for me to navigate. Do you know if this film was on the list anywhere?
Nope, it wasn't on there.
