Re: "I Bid You Welcome..."
Dr_Gor,
Thank you for your most generous invitation. You can include me aboard! I look forward to all posts posted!
I wish I could resurrect the crappy show I grew up on in Miami with M.T. Graves as the Host, set in a prison cell, with his cell mate, a dummy, named Reginald. Man, I wish I still had my membership card.
There was a continuing skit on SCTV with John Candy and Joe Flaherty that was hilarious to me...But I am sure you have more on your mind than that!

Re: "I Bid You Welcome..."
Hello, Puhnner! Good to have you here, my friend!
Yes, I remember the hilarious SCTV skits which featured Joe Flaherty as the 'vampiric' host of a very poorly produced weekly 'Horror Movie' show... very funny indeed!
For me, growing up in Denver, it was 'Creature Features'... on Friday nights, I believe, and 'hosted' by a faceless figure called 'Mr. Firstnighter' (!) ... no shit... (I even joined the 'fan club' !!! wish I still had THAT card... damn!) ... He was not much of a 'host', however... they showed a 'shadowy figure' dressed in a black 'cloak' and a wide-brimmed black hat and a black walking stick, roaming through a cemetary with lots of fog.... meanwhile, the voice-over guy, in a creepy voice, is saying "...I'm Mr. Firstnighter... welcome to Creature Features..." ... but what was COOL about it, is they showed ALL of the really cool old UNIVERSAL MOVIES from the 30's- the 40's ... some of these were, quite simply, some of THE BEST HORROR MOVIES EVER MADE... "FRANKENSTEIN" for one...
Then came my exposure to a TRUE 'Horror Movie Host' in the person of 'Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark' and her weekly 'Movie Macabre' .... needless to say, it was love at first sight... for me...
there is more of this story to come, if you are interested...

Re: "I Bid You Welcome..."
Ah yes, the classics. The program in Miami was 'the Dungeon'. I think the guy who played M.T. was the sports guy or weather guy. He used to slip in the top hits of Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan too. I don't know why, but of the 4, Dracula, Frankenstein, Werewolf, and the Mummy, the Mummy was the one that I found especially creepy.
Then many years later, along came Elvira, wound so tight in her get-up and go, that I wondered if she could breathe at all. Then how/why could it matter???
Are there any programs out there now that are scaring the living beezjesus out of kids?

Re: "I Bid You Welcome..."
Thanks for the invite. I was thinking that there is nothing on tv that could possibly scare kids now if the premium channels are blocked. Everything is too homogenized to be really all that scary on cable, unless you count real-life footage of botched plastic surgeries. R.L. Stein used to have that Goosebumps series but I don't know if that counts either...
That usually featured some kind of silly crap.

Re: "I Bid You Welcome..."
... most 'kids' nowdays won't even watch ANYTHING that looks like it might be more than 10 years old (!) ... and if it's b&w, forget about it.... it is a sad state of affairs, really, when I have met young people intheir 20's and early 30's, who have NEVER SEEN the original "King Kong" ... or ANY of the original Horror movies... I have met people who had NEVER SEEN "The Wizard Of OZ" or "Ben-Hur"... I once met a guy in his twenty's (and this was several years ago!) who had NO IDEA who Charlton Heston is... (!!!) I don't know what to think about it....

Ah, one of the classic comments to ape's inhumanity to man. I salute you Chuck Heston, I really do.
