Re: favorite

I have many... but if I had to pick one true favorite, it would have to be 'The Exorcist'... STILL the scariest movie ever made ! ... and I am madly in love with Linda Blair....

"the version you've never seen before" or the theatrical?

Personally I saw the crabwalk down the stairs at a gothic theater- yes gothic theater, w/ vaulted ceilings and old stone work, in philly, and I have to say it was quite effective.

I like both versions... the original had quite an effect on me as a 13 year old boy when I saw it during it's initial release in '73...  the extended version is the same movie only a little better, with the addition of the infamous 'spider-walk scene' and the extended ending was quite good as well...   wasn't 'Lt. Kinderman' outstanding in that movie?

The extended 'medical examination' scenes were quite cool as well...

I've only seen The Exorcist twice... I like keeping it so that the crucifix masterbation scene still shocks me a little.

One of the scariest horror movies I've ever seen is Event Horizon.  It's not slasher scary, but it throws a dangerous psychological aspect into the mix.  I saw this one alone in a theater and thought my car was going to take over my mind the entire drive home.  It's one of those love or hate it type movies, but if it clicks, it's scary as hell.

"Event Horizon" is a very creepy movie... I think that when you go into a theater alone and watch a scary movie, it can have quite an effect on you... for one thing, you are paying more attention to the movie...

A couple of movies have deffinately had that effect on me...  "The Exorcist" of course, as mentioned earlier, as well as Lucio Fulci's "ZOMBIE" and "Macon County Line"... to name a few...

I'm super suprised someone listed Event Horizon. I love that movie. The acting isn't necessarilly the most fantastic I've ever seen, but the storyline/plot/idea fascinates me to no end. I personally love the sci-fi / solitude story lines as well as post apocalyptic storylines. I saw that movie maybe 2 weeks after release at Studio 28 with my date, and it was just me and my date. I had to convince this girl to come see it with me ( she wasn't a fan of sci-fi) Neither of us knew much about the film beside the fact it was set in the future. Whoa damn was she pissed I made her come along with me. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but she was a little on the religious side and was actually mad at me. I wasn't about to leave the theatre so I'm sure that helped incite the anger. So yes, Event Horizon, I agree, scary movie.... I even painted event horizon on the back of my pickup at the time....

Another that stands out is 28 Days. These movies don't necessarilly scare me, but I often have dreams of situations like these coming true. And I'm certainly frightened in my dreams... so watching movies like 28 days and the new dawn of the dead  is like the knot that forms on the end of your tongue after you accidentally bite it, and then you find your self constatly rubbing that knot on your teeth to make it hurt..... well... maybe i'm just crazy....

anyhow, 28 Days and Event Horizon are two movies I can escape reality with and not have to take drugs before hand to feel the experiance. Not many can do that.

Some good drugs (ie. marijuana and alcohol) can certainly enhance an already good movie and make it better... don't ask me how I know this...
