Re: Is "Planet Of The Apes" a Horror Movie?
You're right, Gor -- I misread your previous post and tried to go with "straightforward" examples of horror within sci-fi. All are good examples, with the 'Alien' franchise probably being the ultimate embodiment.

Re: Is "Planet Of The Apes" a Horror Movie?
"Dark Star" was, indeed, a 'stoner comedy in space'! Although it has been MANY years since I've seen it ... (I DO have it in my collection!) ... and my memory has about reached it's capacity so I can't remember some things too well, I believe that "Dark Star" did INDEED have it's (supposedly) horrific moments! If I remember right, there was a malevolent, man-eating ALIEN aboard the ship! A la "ALIEN"! BUT, (again if I remember correctly) The 'alien' looked like a slightly under-inflated beach-ball with feet! And I think that's what it actually was! This movie looks like a film school project and I suspect that is what it was! 'Non Horror Sci-Fi' ... let's see... "Back To The Future"? , "The Absent Minded Profesor"? , "Batteries Not Included"? ... I think there are some...

That parallel 1985 in Back to the Future Part II was pretty frightening.

"But what would you DO with a brain if you had one?" .... THIS has got to be my favorite movie line of all time! That and , "Pay No Attention To That Man Behind The Curtain!" ....
