Always a hot topic - what's the goriest flick you've ever seen?

Visit my humble internet abode for my ideas of the sickest, bloodiest gore-fests: http://www.bloodgutsandgore.com.  ;)

Gore, gore, gore: I'm thinking the more recent ones, mosty torture and large amounts of blood... Hostel ranks right up there, High Tension got some really nasty parts, and The Descent has that pool of blood that's pretty great.

Under discussion:

High Tension  (2005)

Hostel  (2006)

The Descent  (2006)

Perhaps you will find this choice odd, since it is not a 'horror' film at all.

What immediately comes to mind is 'The Man on the Roof'  ( or in swedish, 'Mannen pa taket ') by Bo Widerberg, the film of Maj Sjowall and Peter Wahloo's book 'the Abominable Man'.  I guess you could say it's really more of a 'police procedural/ thriller'. It is filmed in black and white.

And it was really just that one scene. Where the killer visits a hospital to finish off the patient (here I am not sure whether the killer had previously tried to kill this one patient or not; I have only seen the film once, and that was 20 or so years ago), but nevertheless, the patient ends up getting its his throat sliced cleanly; buckets of blood cover the hospital vinyl floor, the killer precedes to slip and slide around and through all that blood and the sound track had all the sounds of the sticky suction with the killers boots.  It seemed way too realistic.  I'd never seen anything like it nor anything since. ( What was that quote by Hannibal Lecter what moonlight does to blood and how it makes blood appear???; it seemed like the floor turned a black quicksilver mirror)

The first Hellraiser certainly was gory, as was the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I would still have to go with the Abominable Man, which set the bar for me.

Puhnner... you might be WAY too poetic for this room...

I would have to say the GORIEST film I've ever seen would be "Necromantik"  (not listed on SPOUT)...

Certainly perverted, but there have been many more equally as depraved and blood-soaked pics of horror and ghastliness...you know there to go for more: http://www.bloodgutsandgore.com.

I rated the original Evil Dead an 8/10, quite messy; Evil Dead II was 5/10.  ;)

I am going to make a bold attempt to revive this discussion (and this group) from the ashes...   After having seen MORE than thousands of them,  I feel I can definately proclaim what I, Dr. Gor, feel is THE goriest movie ever made..   That movie is ..   Buried Alive  (aka Beyond The Darkness etc.)  from Joe D'Amato..    Yes, this movie outranks such bloodbaths as  Dead Alive  and  Re-Animator  in the 'severed limbs' category...  at least in quality if not in quantity ...   Not only is the Gore very juicey indeed, but it is also of the most 'disturbing' kind...   A girl has all 10 of her fingernails ripped off with a pair of pliers before she is killed, in graphic detail; for example...

Re: Always a hot topic - what's the goriest flick you've ever seen?

Well, the goriest film per se would have to be Peter Jackson's DEAD ALIVE, but it isn't my choice.  The gore is definitely for comedic effect and doesn't make me squirm (no pun intended for those who love Lieberman's movie LOL!).  I don't know if I could pick the goriest...but some I've really liked that focused on gore are...

NAKED BLOOD

BIUO OMEGA aka BURIED ALIVE (good choice by Dr. Gor).

Fulci's THE CAT IN THE BRAIN, THE BEYOND, ZOMBIE and CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD.

ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST

CANNIBAL FEROX

LIVING DEAD GIRL

I'm sure there's many more!  By the way, NEW to the group, thanks for letting me join!

Mark
