Well, the goriest film per se would have to be Peter Jackson's DEAD ALIVE, but it isn't my choice.  The gore is definitely for comedic effect and doesn't make me squirm (no pun intended for those who love Lieberman's movie LOL!).  I don't know if I could pick the goriest...but some I've really liked that focused on gore are...

None of these films can hold a candle to movies like Kitchiku or Man Behind The Sun. No one beats Asian cinema when it comes to gore! However the French are getting there. ... LOL - I am actually reviewing the best French Horror films on my next show if anyone is interested

I agree those are definitely gory and even gorier than the titles I listed (except maybe NAKED BLOOD which is also Asian).

Unfortunately, I usually list films I enjoyed rather than gross for gross sake.  MEN BEHIND THE SUN, etc. are just unpleasant and I didn't find entertaining or frightening.  Disturbing yes, good horror films, well, that's subject to taste.

You're more than welcome! I enjoy talking film, especially horror! One of the reasons why we started CULTCUTS MAGAZINE and DIGITAL CONQUEST.  In order to talk about and enjoy horror and other exploitation films on a more literate level rather than the usual online sites that just talk about something either sucking or ruling! LOL!

Wow, no one has listed any of Argento works. Maybe there not that gory but they do have there points, such as

Tenebre (1982)

I know I keep mentioning this, but there is a new director on the  scene and his latest film is like a tribute to all the exploitation films and gore we all saw the in the past. Just got done watching the commentary. Trust me its worth checking out if you can get "Balls-out uncut edition"

Gutterballs (2008)

I half to agree with the "The fly", saw it as a kid sitting underneath my grandmothers table, since it was a favorite of hers. The blender scene!

Argento is one of my favorite directors and he definitely has his moments of gore, but usually when I think of his movies, gore isn't one of the first things that jump out.  I usually think style, atmosphere and substance.

I hate say it, but that is what makes him such an influuential director because he can do everything. And honestly I am not even sure why I said that even though Tenebre (1982) is pretty brutal. When I think Argento I think color and voyeurism, all elements of cinematography!

As for J-horror, its all scarey because they do there own stunts, such as ju-on 2 I believe they use a contortionist. In my opinion the enjoyable J-horror or asian horror even with gore kinds of makes you laugh. Look at any of Takashi Miike's stuff!!

Wow...I definitley have to say that this group is springing back from the necrosis it had been languishing in for a spell, a fact due entirely to my sluggishness.  As I told (warned?) Mr. Gor however, I am creeping back into the wickedness of the gore film and horror in general, so we'll see what happens as time goes on.

As for the latest post, I will stand by any claim that Takashi Miike is an extremely perverted, twisted, demented and sick-minded psychotic individual with the perfect eye for disturbing and revolting imagery and sobering, hard-hitting ideas.  That, for me, is where the deepest horror comes from - the mind.  If horror didn't traffic in the "the killer is never, ever, ever really dead" schtick, we could say that you can conceivably outrun a killer with a knife.  But if someone gets in your head (Phone Booth, The Cell, Captivity, etc.) you have to face it and fight the battle or risk losing your mind and possibly your life.

Psychological, for my money, is the greatest kind of horror since once it starts, it can't stop until it's either beaten or succumbed to.

Yes I will admitt Takashi Miike is one of my favorite director and he is in my top 3. I had the privilage to get the box set of Dead or Alive (2000). Look at the the first 20 min.s of that movie and the kiddie pool bath and the scooping of Feces! Or even Ichi the killer, one of my favorites! Which is kinda psychotically funny.
