Elementary School Classic

I uncovered a rare gem here at Spout, a film I remember seeing as a child which left an indelible mark. It's basically about a carved indian in a canoe that is filmed going through streams, waterfalls, etc. Beautiful nature photos and brings to mind the same kind of awe in watching a leaf float down the gutter after a rainstorm when you were 5.

I had no idea it was nominated for an Oscar (short subject) in 1968.

Get it for your kids!

Oh yeah. It's wonderful. Was my mother's favorite story as a child. She always lived on an ocean. When she married my Dad, and he moved her to Michigan, she cried and cried. He reminded her that Lake Michigan is connected to the ocean, and if she ever needed to, she could Paddle to the Sea. So she stuck around.

For their 50th anniversary, we had a sculptor sculpt Paddle, and then had it finished in gold leaf. It sits on my father's bedside table now.

Oh.. I have a pic somewhere. Maybe I'll change my Spout image...

I just remembered I've seen this! It's more memories of images. Moses, I'm hankering to watch this now. Can you guys think of any more obscure childhood flicks?

One obvious short for me is the Sesame Street montage at the Crayola factory.

I also remember watching a 16mm film on an eskimo family with no teeth and the father goes fishing (and I totally just remembered that projector smell of the fan blowing air over the light bulb inside).
