Nerdcore Rising

A nerdcore performer says in the pitch, "If you're honest and reflect your real life, that's hip-hop." But Hank Williams would be considered hip-hop by this definition!

The performer's argument isn't defending the genre so much as dodging a real concern--as one person says, "I think it's a little bit racist." Maybe. I don't know what to think yet, but I want to see the movie.

What do you think of MC Frontalot and the Nerdcore genre?

Re:Nerdcore Rising

I'm the first to admit that I'm a nerd, but not in the traditional sense.  Meaning: I suck at math.

But I appreciate a good Nerdcore-ish YouTube video.  Some of my favorites:

Mathmaticious

I really like MC Frontalot.  When I was in high school I went to "rap" shows from un-traditional acts like Dirt Nasty (aka Simon Rex) and Mickey Avalon. To me, the music is inherently subversive - it's not spectacular, but its good; it benefits from the "star power" that the lyrics mock; it's sending a "message," but the core of that message is have fun and party. It's very LA, in that way.

Dirt Nasty - 1980 (Warning: Explicit Content)

Anyone who can mention "Hands Across America" in a rap song deserves mad props.
