Promoting your film on Spout
Spout likes to help independent filmmakers get their films seen by people who will love them. You can build support for your film by using these Spout features:
- Find your friends. The first step to building a fanbase on Spout is to Find your friends. We'll find which of your contacts are already on Spout, then you and your friends can start discussing your film.
- Participate. Using the site regularly is the surest way of getting users to notice your film. Start a group to feature discussion of your film, or join discussions in other active groups.Add links to your film in discussion posts
- SpoutMind, our movie recommendation engine, recommends movies based on user preferences. Your activity makes it more likely that your film will be recommended to people who will love it.
- Movies like yours. Find movies you think are like your movie, then add anyone to your contacts who rated that movie highly or wrote a favorable review. Contact them. Tell them you'd love it if they saw your movie
- Genre groups. Do you have a horror movie? Join some of the horror fan groups and tell them about it. (Be sure to explain which movies you love and which ones you think your movie is like.
- Use the Spout Mavens. We distribute screeners to the Mavens, the most respected and active members of the Spout community. They'll watch and review your film, kick-starting a larger conversation about it on the site.
- If you're interested in submitting screeners or have any questions, shoot an email to mavens@spout.com. In the past, some films submitted to the screener program have also been featured on SpoutBlog and the FilmCouch podcast.
- Add content. Get people excited with free downloads, and use viral social media to your advantage: embed your film's YouTube trailer or even entire scenes from the film. "Embed and spread!"
- Your movie page. Create a hub for reviews of your film and information about it.
- If you can't find your film on Spout, contact the Customer Care group in the Film Content thread and we'll add your film to our database.
- You can send us a list of 5 - 10 films that are related to your film in some way. Just mention briefly how they're related (similar themes or conflicts, or same actors?) and we'll make sure these connections show up on your movie's page.
- Reach out to individual Spout people by using the "Recommend it" option on your movie's page.
So there you have it, some easy ways to build buzz around your film on spout.com.

Re:Promoting your film on Spout
Great post, Skypilot. I've been talking back and forth with a few small filmmakers interersted in having their material promoted via Spout--I'll definately pass this along to them.
