Re:Recasting GHOSTBUSTERS (1984)

I was thinking High Fidelity/Gross Point Blanke John Cusack. A little darker Peter Venkman, but still hilarious. And Robert Downey Jr.  might outshine Cusack on screen but I could not think of a better over the top bad guy than Robert Downey Jr. Like a less witty, less like-able version of his character in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Cusack is a squink of the highest echelon, the kind of guy Bill Murray outmans in his movies! I think Cusack is more naturally the  Walter Peck  type.

Also, it's hard for me to imagine Robert Downey Jr. not one-upping Cusack if they're put face-to-face.

If nothing else, I like just like the idea of Cusack and Downey Jr. doing a film together! Why hasn't that happened yet?

Also, speaking of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I think a Real Genius-era Val Kilmer would really rock in the Venkman role. Talk about a perfect smart-ass!

     Okay, so redoing Ghostbusters as a comedy is pointless.  No matter how good the cast, I just can’t top Bill Murray!  So I’ve decided to pitch this as a straight on Horror / Thriller with some humorous elements.   I thought the best way to achieve this would be to take some fun actors doing straight forward takes.
