PBS Does STAR WARS

The winners are on page 2 of this discussion and on the Filmspotting podcast.

Stay tuned for news about upcoming contests.

THE CLONE WARS movie kicks off a television series exploring George Lucas' "Star Wars Universe," and Lucas promises future TV series to follow. We started to think about how great it would be for PBS to explore the Star Wars Universe. Like Carl Sagan investigating giant asteroid worms, or Bill Moyers interviewing Yoda, or a 3-2-1 Contact about droids--the educational programming we really wanted to see as kids, like a Ken Burns documentary series on "The Force."

Tell us your idea for a PBS show--or just any educational show--about something in the Star Wars Universe. The show we want to see the most will be our winner.

I want to see the Frontline investigation into the Jedi cult:

"This strange religious faction which abduct infants, indoctrinates them with unusual beliefs, endangers them with bizzarre and life threatening tests involving deadly weapons and halucinatory experiences. Once fully indoctrinated, the members are turned loose to enforce their own brand of justice solely at the direction of the cult leaders, called the Jedi Council. Although the Jedi Coucil has infiltrated the highest levels of government, this group answers to no one but themselves. We will talk to former children raised by the Jedi who say they were rejected before becoming full members or "Jedi Knights." We will also look into allegations that the Jedi hunt down and attempt to kill members of a breakaway sect known as the Sith.

“Max Rebo: Black and White Night”

A special that runs during every pledge drive on “PBS Tatooine”. It features the legendary Rebo; along with Droopy McCool, Sny Snoodles and a cavalcade of stars from across the galaxy, playing some of his greatest hits for an audience of aging Hutts. Sadly, less than a year after filming this concert, Rebo would die of gluttony; making this show all the more poignant and memorable. A DVD of the performance can be obtained at the "Han Solo in carbonite" donation level.

PBS, Star Wars and Civil Rights

C3P0 picking for robot marriage!

Chewie lobbying for the wookie right to vote!

Han Solo as the right to bear arms crusader!

Bib Fortuna leads the quest for intergalactic gaming and gambling (this is the twi'lek in Jabba's court)

Ewoks rally for indigenous rights on Endor!

Does a Jedi police force pose a threat to civil liberties? While Luke Skywalker argues an emphatic "no" others want Jedi control and influene in society limited.

The republic has been reinstalled and the evil empire ousted, but the republic is far from a perfect union with liberties for everyone. With their adventuring careers over, many familiar faces seek to create change in new ways.

The first thing that came to me was:

To Catch a Predator: Coruscant

Chris Hansen goes on the search for Zero the Hutt.  Watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) and you will understand.

This might be a little 'old-school' for some of you guys but what about a  "Sesame Street"  version of  "Episode IV: A New Hope" ...

'Bob' is Luke Skywalker, 'Maria' is Princess Leia, 'Gordon' is Han Solo, Cookie Monster is Chewbaca, Bert and Ernie are C3PO and R2D2 (in that order), Snuffalupagus is Jabba The Hut, The Count is The Emporer and Oscar The Grouch is Darth Vader, etc...

(am I showing my age here?)

Take this crap they call Clone Wars and insert the following..........

1. Place math problems on all the space ships.

2. Place the answers to those math problems on random endangered  creatures.

3. Replace Ziro with a bi-sexual purple dinosaur that can speak spanish.

4. Replace popular theme music with a sing-along with Hannah Montana.

5, Have a read and spell with Jabba's son stinky .

6. Cut to President Bush looking for weapons of mass destruction on Tatooine.

7. Show a Pro Life Yoda Handing out condoms with a side of good advice.

8. One out of every ten pod racers are electric and sponsored by Obama.

9. The program would also encourage making friends of different color.

10. If you watch this educational show online and are between the ages of 8-14 you will be entered to win a free copy of  Pass the Ammo or Highway to Hell. ( While supplies last).

End with Sky Guy stepping in poodoo for the kiddies.

PBS Does STAR WARS - Sir David Attenborough's THE LIVING GALAXY

OPEN WITH SLOW PANNING SHOT OF TATOOINE'S DESERT - LOTS OF DESERT.

ATTENBOROUGH:(VO) It has been called "the furthest place away from the Bright Spot of the Universe", a vast trackless desert inhabited mainly by roving nomadic groups - Sand People, Jawas and Tuskan Raiders. Its capital city, indeed its only city of note, is Mos Eisley Spaceport - where you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany.

CUT TO: ATTENBOROUGH kneeling on sand dune, spilling sand from his fingers.

ATTENBOROUGH: Tatooine - desert world. You would think that no creature could survive here naturally, without sentient technology, in an environment as arid and hostile as a deserted space station. And yet -

CUT TO: Shots of Banthas, Skeeks, Baleen Whaletortoises, Krayt Dragons, Clawbirds, Dewbacks, Womp rats, Wraids, Worrts, Skettos, and the Sarlaac  of the Great Pit of Carkoon.

ATTENBOROUGH: - a vast bounty of living beings succeeds in surviving, and thriving, on Tatooine - some of it beautiful, some deadly, all of it stunning in its adaptability to the hostile terrain....

SUPER TITLE: PART 1 - Tatooine: Life on the Edge

Frontline: Insurgency

The Empire has expanded trade and projected its power across the galaxy but at what cost. Frontline investigates the growing Tattoine black markets in slaves and narcotics, the ever expanding military budgets and the ominous insurgent movements on many of the wealthiest planets in the Empire. Can our society survive the depradations of the Hutts and will a Jihadest Quasi-religious cult known as the Jedi push the entire Galaxy into war. Join us as we explore the troubled waters of our Empire and interview Emporer Palpatine, Lord Vader, Jabba Hutt and an exclusive with the religious figurehead of the Jedi Insurgency Yoda.

Thats tonight on Frontline. Followed by Nova: Engineering Marvels: Death Star!
